Decay - Block for the Criminally Insane - Morriset NSW Australia by

I took this image back in 2008 during a 4WD excursion to this tragic site at Morriset in NSW Australia. Like most of Australia’s lunatic asylums this one too has been abandoned and vandalised. Was it to shut out the memory of what took place in these buildings or was it ignorance at the historic significance these facilities had in the history of our country. Regardless, it is a fascinating place to visit but do it soon as it won’t be long before it is raised to the ground completely – nature has already begun to invade the ruins. Do not mistake this site for the Morriset Hospital on the shores of Lake Macquarie not too far from this one.

I love the challenge of capturing what I see, admire and love. To share it with you is an added bonus. Photography to me is recording history. Please explore my galleries and enjoy♥

Hi Bev, I’ve been here twice but not recently. That’s a great window you have captured here, one I didn’t spot. Love the light on the decaying wall – really good stuff !!!

  • Thanks Ian … I took this one back in 2008 so not sure what is left there now … it was pretty much wrecked back then but I did love the old windows and managed to get a few similar to this – there are a few back in my gallery somewhere♥
