Whispers Featured in Stillness Speaks
My poem “Whispers” was featured in Stillness Speaks – I wrote this poem in 2005 to commemorate my memories of Kurrajong Heights and the magnificent trees that my grandfather planted almost 80 years ago. I have since also written another short story on similar lines “Panorama Point at Kurrajong Heights NSW” – this is the photo today of the trees that will one day soon disappear as age and development will inevitably kill them.

Thanks Jan – you are so kind and always boost my confidence. I applaud the moderators of “Stillness Speaks” to have especially picked out 12 writers to feature their work. You sometimes feel a little neglected as most groups don’t feature poems or short stories so well done to them for doing this!

Bev, I agree with you about featuring of written works! I’ve found only one other group that does that incidentally, but not in a ‘group’ or ‘featured writers’ format.
I know there are many writers on RB who would like to see the opportunity to sell their writing, as you can with visual works.

You have a point there Jan about selling your written work – it is also very easy to print off by anyone and be used at will. I have had two people approach me to request to be able to read one particular poem to community groups and I have willingly agreed but ideally we should be able to sell this work for a minimal fee in some form – maybe RB could consider getting into the printing business as well and offer for us to put the best of our work into small booklets for sale!

Yes I agree….and put in place the type of protection that already exists to protect our visual works from people right clicking them or simply dragging them onto their desktops (of their computers i.e.!!). That should be fairly simple to do. And as they are already in a printing business, it shouldn’t be too large a leap to extend that or diversify.
Now isn’t there a cliche along the lines of ‘diversify or die’?
And the thing is, these photography sites are growing like wildfire, as are online printing and publishing….
So there is a golden opportunitiy here to be had, by combining the two in one. They have already begun.
Now it just needs to go another step or two.
ooooh….I feel a letter of appeal coming on….a petition even???

Don’t give your work away…at least make sure they credit you, or keep the © on there. At the very least, you should put that at the bottom of every written work you upload on RB…
