House Boat - Valentine NSW

House Boat - Valentine NSW

This image was taken just after sunrise this week. I was preparing breakfast and happened to glance out the window to witness this magnificent light over Lake Macquarie at Valentine in NSW Australia. Luckily the trusty D90 was handy for me to capture this magical reflection from my balcony. I have zoomed in on the original image … the tower on the left is a TV antenna on one of the waterfront homes … note the kookaburra on the top and the cockatoo lower down … and no the houseboat is not mine!

Near perfect reflections Bev – and all the more interesting for the slight ripple on the water. Totally love the birds on the mast?? of the other boat! Terrific shot!

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks Lianne for the comment, I always love your input. The mast is actually a TV aerial on top of one of the waterfront houses – we’re on the hill above looking down on the lake and this is what I get to wake up to most days … its so hard to put up with …LOL!♥

I thought it looked like an antennae but it never occurred to me that it would be at the top of a boat, aside from seeing the lines on either side. But it did look too thin to be a mast – lol!

  • Bev Woodman replied

The original shot showed the roofs and a whole lot of clutter, so I zoomed in and cropped them out but short of photoshopping the antenna out, I thought it was interesting and so left it there!♥

Great reflection Bev, I considered getting a houseboat when We moved to the lake but decide to get something with more speed. A deckboat!

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks Jade. Believe it or not … we have lived on the lake (or on the hill looking over it) for almost 40 years but have never owned a boat. I have seen too many people buy boats, like the many parked near us that are used only occasionally or never … one day I hope we will hire a houseboat though and do the whole lake over a weekend – it would be great!♥

Splendid capture and a beautiful scene and light on the lake, Bev!

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks Jan – the morning started over with no colour and then changed to this – it was a mad dash to capture it before it faded!♥

That’s some view you have from your window, Edna! Outstanding reflections.

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks Sonia. We live on the hill looking over the lake but this houseboat is something I see daily. The original image was more distant with a lot of clutter … I have zoomed in and cropped the junk out of the image!♥

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks Terry … we overlook this view from the hill above the lake. I have zoomed in on this scene and cropped the rubbish out of the original image … but I do agree, I never get sick of looking at the lake♥

Great reflections Bev. Nice shot. Is that a kookaburra & a galah in the shot ? How aussie is that ?

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks Michael and yes that is a kookaburra and a galah … I zoomed in on the original image to cut out some clutter of house tops etc and actually thought of photo shopping this antenna out but decided it was truly aussie … and so it stayed!♥

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thank you Judy for your enthusiastic response to this one … to be able to cruise around the lake in this light, pull up anchor when you want and nestle in a quite bay each night … that would be peace and tranquility!♥

Thanks Tracy … I look at this houseboat every day from my window on the hill above and I love to watch the moods of the lake and how it changes the look of this boat … this was an exceptionally still morning with the sun’s first light shining directly onto it♥
