Smoke From the Chimneys?

Smoke From the Chimneys?

BEST SHOWN LARGE

This is yet another image from the “Haunted House” series. This shot was from the yard looking across the roof line and chimneys of this old abandonded house. Its not a terrific image but does show yet another mystery – this house has been abandonded for years, no one lives there, the fire places are cold so why does the front kitchen image show a slight smoke or vapour haze and the rear loungeroom chimney show a definite blue smoke haze. These fire places had not been lit for a looooong time so how do I explain the smoke?

It’s ok, it was just me cooking up some scones & tea for Bev, Phil & myself…

  • Bev Woodman replied

Now that would have been great to see that old stove come to life!! Thanks Mandy – it was fun but this is strange too.

    Wow….very interesting.

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks Woody – I’m not dreaming am I – there is a fine smoke haze from both chimneys especially the back one. I’ll post an image of what this fire place looked like and the coals were definitely out.

That is just too spooky to contemplate

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks Anna – I didn’t see it when I was there and it wasn’t until I was going through my images on the screen that I picked this one up. I took another portrait style image and the same effect is in that one too.

Now had you waited until after dark, with thunder crashing and lightning flashing and THEN gone inside the house on your own to take a photo while hubby waited outside in the car! You might had got an explanation! LOL Regardless of the mystery this is a terrific photo and you must try and remind me to tell you of the time when I was in a haunted room and my flash started firing off for no reason! Peter

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks Peter – please tell me the story either here or by bubble – I just love these type of stories as I relate so well to them. I had problems in this house trying to capture a very old round timber desk chair. Initially I tried to move it across the floor and the darn thing wouldn’t budge so I put the camera down and heaved it about 2 feet away. Then when I tried to take the photo my camera just would work. Mandy admitted to having similar problems during a previous visit so jokingly I addressed the chair stating that we didn’t mean any harm and could we take a photo – I then aimed the camera at the chair and took the photo without any problems?? All you need to be is polite to a ghost and he will cooperate. I felt awful later though because I didn’t put the chair back to where I found it!!!!!

This is the one that really threw me – I didn’t see it at the time of taking the photo but only noticed it when looking at me images after downloading them at home – thanks Paul.

OK Bev. We were visiting an old homestead called Oakabella – supposedly Australia’s 5th most haunted house – and were being given a grand tour by the owner (who also operated a nice little tea rooms on the property (4,000 hectares in all) Her husband inherited the property from his father who, in turn, had inherited it from HIS father who had been the patriarch of the Drummond family who was a wealthy pioneer land owner.
Anyway the lady told us how she and her hubby had to sleep in the house while a new place was being built for them about a km away. She said they got quite used to finding the dressing table had moved to the other side of the room during the night and various ornaments, hairbrushes, bottles etc had also been moved – in some cases into the bathroom. We then went into the dining room which was supposedly the most haunted room in the house, which haunting was said to have something to do with a picture on the wall of a young lady. As she was saying this both Betty and the other lady in our group started shivering uncontrollably and both went almost as white as ghosts themselves! I felt absolutely nothing but, all of a sudden, the flash on my camera starting popping off – at least six times. The camera was hanging round my neck and I wasn’t even touching it!
From what we could gather the ghost was that of a serving girl from 100+ years previously who, whilst cleaning one of the bedrooms had fallen from the top of this massive old wardrobe and hit the brass bedhead fittings and was killed.
They do quite a good tourist trade and a couple of years ago Channel Nine did a feature for their Postcards WA programme.
Well, you DID ask!! LOL Peter

Now remind me to tell you the story of Jay’s grave on Dartmoor, England (although it is documented in Google if you would prefer that)

Ooh Yes ~ this is great Bev :)

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks Sonia – this was a great day and this old house provided so much material to shoot with quite a few things unexplained, especially the smoke/vapour from these chimneys?????

great pic I love haunted houses!

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thank you Toni for the comment – I can’t explain why the vapour appears to be coming from the chimney – I experience quite a few strange things in this house this day and I can’t explain any of them.

Thank you Linmarie for looking at my work and for commenting. Many might think me crazy but the images and the feel inside this old house was incredible. I’m usually prone to ‘feeling things’ inside certain houses. I usually interpret this as something sad or a person trying to make contact with me – read my story on the old court house at St Albans in my writing section. When I don’t feel anything I usually interpret it as being a happy household.

I great image with a wonderful detailed description, thanks for that, its great to have some background on these images we look at. It would be really interesting to invert this photo so you could see the smoke more and see if it is actually coming out of the fireplace. If you do, can you post it on here so we could see it. I love your stories.. thanks for sharing.

  • Bev Woodman replied

Thanks Geni – I will experiment later and see what happens. This image totally blew me away when I put it onto the computer. Have you read some of my written work?

Great shot amazing description to back up this pic,,,where abouts in oz is this house Im visiting in November? Dont know if anyone has ever heard this theory ..but my spirit guides tell me an have proven to me on many occasions that departed spirits..when visiting their old residence(as could be in this case) will often by thought transeference relive situs like ligting the fires or baking bread turning lawn mowers on…more often than not keeping safefy to a maximun…in other words they do not intend to hurtthe living….

  • Bev Woodman replied

Wow! thanks Marie for this comment. This house is located in Wollombi, a small country town about 1-2 hours drive north of Sydney. All fireplaces in this old house were definitely not alight and I didn’t notice the smoke vapour until I was looking at the images on the computer. I seem to be susceptable to spirits or beings and have had quite a few experiences over the years – all good although one shook me up a bit – read my story on the old court house at St Albans.
