“Nature’s Loving Caress”

Watercolor, photograph, and digital art

Petals like velvet
soothe my raw
emotions that spew forth.
peony listens
silently, without
and I melt.
into her arms.

When I was going through a rather stressful time in my life, I would often seek refuge in nature. Gardens particularly had a calming influence on me and my worries and fears would slowly leave me as I soaked up the healing vibrations surrounding me. I could escape into my mother-in-law’s garden with my camera attached to me like a body part and drown in nature’s loving caress. Paradoxically, it was often my mother-in-law who caused me the greatest stress at times. I’d have to say that creative outlets and nature were my saviors, and still are. I am grateful to them both.

When the original photograph (the peony) stands alone by itself, it has a heavenly feel about it. I needed to add the woman to show how she is being affected by seeing the flower. I enjoy putting lots of flowing lines into my pieces to depict the energy that flows from us into the universe and back again to our being. The woman is in a meditative state of contemplation, letting the peace and quietude resonate through her and touch her to her core. Yet, she has a wildness about her that depicts how freeing she felt as her heart was let loose. The poem is added here to further express how I feel. I am thankful for creative expression, for to verbalize my inner self is sometimes difficult.

    Hi there,
I wasn’t sure whether to put this on RedBubble or not, I was adding some final touches to it last night and now it seems to tell a more complete story. Ah, the beauty of collage/mixed media. It says alot about how nature has helped me to heal. My mother-in-law used to grow the most beautiful peonies, they were such a wonderful subject to dream on. I guess that petal in the middle with pink has turned into a bug of sorts. Ah, the creative license of it all. Flowers, bugs, humans, we’re all one in unity. I shall go check out your work, thanks for stopping by!

This is stunning, I love that you shared your words with us. I too find nature my safe place. Thand for sharing.

  • Nature is always a safe place for me and allows me to access that inner child self of me that knows nature will protect and not hurt her.I find that adding words to images and vise verse voices a more complete expression for me. Thank you for your kind words, Therese

Outstanding, the pearlesent effect is gorgeous, you are a wonderful colorist.

  • Hi Norval,
I am always trying for different surface techniques, and using the computer can enhance and add a pearly, milky feeling through opacity. Thank you. Your work is inspiring as well and I hope to perhaps “learn” from what you do. Supporting each other on our path is a good thing!
