Winter's Blanket by bevmorgan

Soft pastel on white colourfix sanded paper.
I am still working with pastel on a fairly regular basis, though I have to choose my work space carefully to avoid too much dust in the air.
This is based on a photo of a farm near Orangeville, Ontario taken last winter. There had been a recent fresh blanket of snow which gave such a pristine look to the landscape. Being a rather dull day, I have used a fairly limited palette to convey the resulting mood. I find I am much happier with a limited palette, but need to push myself to indulge in brighter and more varied pigments from time to time.

Painting is such an integral part of my personality and my life. I find much joy and satisfaction in the process, and if the results are pleasing then I am also gratified, but I must admit it is the process that intrigues me and sparks my creative juices.
I paint primarily in watercolour but love to experiment with other media, especially in combination with my watercolour. I would be honoured if you were inclined to take the time to browse through my work.

Very beautiful Bev, I just love a snow scene, even though we don’t get more than a couple of inches a season if we’re lucky.

  • Thanks so much, Jim. I love painting snow, but not shovelling it.

beautiful work Bev…lovely snowy landscape…in our summer now here..

  • Thanks so much, Linda, for dropping by. We don’t have snow as yet but it is not far away. I will then be looking for new settings for my winter paintings. I still envy you your summer, however.

The hush of that winter blanket can be felt and even heard in your pastel landscape (I have lived in cold climates and remember), and your limited palette is exactly right for the mood. I really like your subtle stroke of light along the ridges.

  • Thanks for the very observant comment, Celeste. You always see so much more than most and I appreciate you taking the time to tell me.
