Pastel on white Colorfix sanded paper.

I have painted this scene in watercolour, but really wanted to try it again using soft pastel. Although the scene reference is the same, the results are quite different, in my eyes anyway. I am loving the softness of the pastel and the working from dark to light, but the happy accidents one can achieve with watercolour will always hold my loyalty to this medium.

Painting is such an integral part of my personality and my life. I find much joy and satisfaction in the process, and if the results are pleasing then I am also gratified, but I must admit it is the process that intrigues me and sparks my creative juices.
I paint primarily in watercolour but love to experiment with other media, especially in combination with my watercolour. I would be honoured if you were inclined to take the time to browse through my work.

When you said you had painted this scene in watercolor, of course I had to look it up. Points for the pastel version: I like the textural feeling of the snow, and the pine trees have so much character! Points for the watercolor version: light and depth! The light dances in this version, in the sky and behind the little clouds of snow along the ridges. The depth of pinkish distant mountains is most pleasing. My lasting impression: this is a versatile and oh-so-talented artist, regardless of medium!

  • You really write the best comments, Celeste. You really study a work and know exactly the right thing to say. Thank you so much for being you.
