As Summer Fades by bevmorgan

Watercolour on 140 lb. Arches cold press.
This is quite a subdued palette compared with my last poppy post, but I wanted it to portray the summer as it wanes. It is perhaps too soft a palette and the word "fades" may be more appropriate than first thought. I tried to use mainly negative painting in this piece and also a fairly limited number of colours.

Painting is such an integral part of my personality and my life. I find much joy and satisfaction in the process, and if the results are pleasing then I am also gratified, but I must admit it is the process that intrigues me and sparks my creative juices.
I paint primarily in watercolour but love to experiment with other media, especially in combination with my watercolour. I would be honoured if you were inclined to take the time to browse through my work.

I guess it depends on what you mean by “subdued” (although the word makes sense in comparison to the bold poppy painting) True, the values are relatively light for the most part, but the contrast between blue and orange seems strong to me – and beautifully expressive of the seasonal change from warm to cool.

  • Your comments always say so much, Celeste. I often read them many times, and this is no exception. Thank you for taking the time to leave such wonderful words and insights.
