Floral on My Mind by bevmorgan

Watercolour (Winsor & Newton) on 140 lb. Arches cold press paper.
Another example of negative painting used in a totally imagined floral design. It has a somewhat Jacobean character to it, but that was purely coincidental. I can get totally lost in this type of painting. I just love using this technique and sometimes have difficulty switching back to the positive mode.

Painting is such an integral part of my personality and my life. I find much joy and satisfaction in the process, and if the results are pleasing then I am also gratified, but I must admit it is the process that intrigues me and sparks my creative juices.
I paint primarily in watercolour but love to experiment with other media, especially in combination with my watercolour. I would be honoured if you were inclined to take the time to browse through my work.

This is so beautiful! I wish I could do negative painting the way you do.

  • Thank you, Lora. You just have to practice and think negatively. It will come, I promise.

  • Thanks so much, Janis. Is there no end to your talents? I would love to see some of your crewel work.

I will take a picture of one of the pieces…the ones I have (that I did not give as gifts) are mostly under glass, but I will try and see how it turns out…I also do needlepoint, stump work, bargello, and a host of others…your painting above would also be gorgeous on silk…do you paint on silk?

  • Janis, you just blow me away with the number of artistic activities you pursue.. I don’t even know what stump work is! I have only done batik on silk, many years ago, but I would like to try painting on it directly.

This is just beautiful, the colours and the flowing looseness of the image is just what I would love to achieve. I must try this technique. Congratulations on your well-earned feature.

  • Thanks so much, Maureen. If you try the technique and have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
