Watercolour on light watercolour paper
A friend gave me some watercolour paper that had belonged to his wife, but did not know the brand or weight of the paper. I am guessing it is 90 lb. paper, but I am not sure. It is very light in weight and also very soft. I decided to paint a simple floral using the negative painting method which employs a fair amount of water. It took the pigment and water very well and dried nice and flat. Lifting, however, would not be an option. The surface would pill very easily. I do like the results and will experiment further. I believe his wife used it to back her rice paper paintings before framing.

Painting is such an integral part of my personality and my life. I find much joy and satisfaction in the process, and if the results are pleasing then I am also gratified, but I must admit it is the process that intrigues me and sparks my creative juices.
I paint primarily in watercolour but love to experiment with other media, especially in combination with my watercolour. I would be honoured if you were inclined to take the time to browse through my work.

I love these softly impressionistic flowers, Bev! As soon as I looked at this gentle bouquet, I was reminded of a super-soft look I sometimes try to achieve by using my macro lens at its largest, wide open f/stop. It’s a romantic, gauzy look that I find appealing, and you’ve done that here with your watercolors so beautifully! Carrying on with the macro lens metaphor, your very narrow point of focus on the highlights at the top edge of the vase is sparkling and just right. (And I marvel once again at your ability to convey the translucency of the glass.)

  • You describe the effect of this paper so well, Celeste. It does have a gauzy effect. Normally I would steer clear of light weight paper, but I am glad I took a chance with this . Thanks for taking the time to make such a wonderful comment.
