Watercolour on 140 lb. Arches cold press paper

The garden is shouting to be noticed at this time of year and with all the rain we have had, flowering plants are flourishing. I painted this celebration using the negative painting method, a favourite technique of mine, and one to which I gladly return on a regular basis.

floral, garden, negative painting, watercolour

Painting is such an integral part of my personality and my life. I find much joy and satisfaction in the process, and if the results are pleasing then I am also gratified, but I must admit it is the process that intrigues me and sparks my creative juices.
I paint primarily in watercolour but love to experiment with other media, especially in combination with my watercolour. I would be honoured if you were inclined to take the time to browse through my work.

I love this almost abstract representation Bev . . Ful of such life and colour. You’ve really captured the joyful ness of a summer garden . . Beautiful . .x

  • I am always trying not to get hung up on detail, so I am pleased you see it as almost abstract, Teresa. Thanks so much.

To me this has a kind of primitive look (and I mean that in the very best sense of “primitive,” pure shapes and colors that can evoke our beginnings as humans). I can feel the joy in this painting, Bev – love it!

  • Thanks you for your amazing insight, Celeste. You always impress and surprise me.
