I’ve always found it fascinating how each of us have our own internal world of things that resonate with us. I think it is important that we follow our passions and interests, whether others understand them or not.
When I was growing up, my father had a variety of artistic interests he did in his spare time. He would spend hours in his workshop in the basement doing wood carvings or painting. Turning to art to entertain came naturally to me. It also became an escape when I needed one. Any disappointment could be overcome by going within myself and becoming better at what I loved.
Stephen King and EC horror comics got their hooks in me when I was a teenager and have never let go. Most of the things that resonate with me are in the horror genre, darkly beautiful, strange, unusual, or horrifying. I am drawn to the bizarre and disturbing in all art forms.
When I first started drawing it was in black pen on white paper and although I have experimented in other mediums, I always come back to my first love. I currently work exclusively in pen and ink, although I don’t rule out the possibility of something else catching my eye in the future. Edward Gorey was an early and direct influence on my style.
Through my art I aim to explore my own personal resonances with pen in hand.
