This is a small shrub that grows in partial shade. Each flower is eight or nine inches wide, the size of a dinner plate. There are Chinese, Korean, and Japanese types of tree peonies, and all of them are lovely. They bloom in mid-spring for about a week.

Years ago an ederly lady in a little town near here had always specialized in growing roses. She changed over to Tree Peonies, pink, yellow, white, an almost purple, They were the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen. This photo is beautiful.
Hi, Norval! Thanks for a fascinating comment and the compliment. These flowers are unforgettable even though they bloom for only a few days of the year.

Beautiful range of colours – that green is unlike the shade of any normal foliage. It’s beautiful.
Thanks very much, David, and thanks for the fave. This deciduous plant blooms very early and its leaves have just barely reached their full size at that time. By July they are a darker green and more opaque.
