These colorful vegetables were being shown at the National Heirloom Exposition in Santa Rosa, California (USA) in September, 2012. This edible heritage reflects a hugely important gene pool which is being actively preserved. Rare breeds of farm animals were also shown so one is included. November 12 update: I just got a batch of these to give for holiday gifts and they look great.

If you want to buy this calendar in mid year, just adjust the start date to any month and you will get the 12 months starting then.

Eye-filling paintings and photos excite me. Mine are inspired by the interplay of color, especially when it creates a cheerful and thoughtful impression. I am a photographer/writer/artist and love both nature and tech stuff. I also publish garden books — see my website. Thanks for looking at my work. • Thanks for the fave and comment, especially about the rabbit as the closer. I was wondering whether it should be more vegetarian. Well the rabbit is one… Cheers!

a great collection! those gourds look so striking!
I love gardening and growing my own veg. This year I went a bit mad and planted 75 variaties of tomatoes. If all grows, I don’t know what to do with the produce :)

  • Hi, Irina! This event (the Heritage Foods Expo in Santa Rosa CA) was fabulous and the range of produce from around the world was astonishing. I guess you know I’m a gardening fanatic. Don’t worry, many friends, charities, and critters will be glad to help you consume any extra tomatoes. Happy spring!!
