I thought that since I posted At the Deer Sanctuary the other day, telling the story of witnessing the early morning magic before racing off into the city for a regular day’s work … well … I thought I should post the direct contrast :) …
Because things have been so crazy at work of late, we thought it might be a nice idea to do something together that’s non-work related … something a little different …
well … we went for drinks (not highly original), in the bar at the top of our building (just can’t get away from work) … but we do work in the tallest building in the Square Mile, so the thinking all made sense. We went up to Vertigo which is the champagne bar on the 42^nd^ floor of Tower 42 … this is the old NatWest tower
my luck? chuckles … the sky was hanging low with an abundance of cloud … and the clouds couldn’t contain themselves either … it was raining … properly … I couldn’t believe I was finally heading up to the top of the Tower, paying a small fortune for a drink so as to earn the privilege of taking some photos … just to be getting such insipid weather !!!
So … seeing that I have a sense of humour, I took the camera out anyway … and figured I should post the shot … because it is indeed in direct and perfect contrast to the Deer Santuary start of day shot … !! chuckles
… you understand of course that now I’ve been up there I want to go back up when I like the weather & light a little better !!! ;)

Wow, quite a shot despite the rainy weather or maybe because of it – the contrasts between light and dark, cold and warm are very attractive. Great view from up there!
You’ll have to go back up again when the sun shines for more shots and of course another glass of bubbly:-)
:)) Indeed great views … couldn’t get Tower Bridge ‘cause there were people at that particular window (their booked section, so I coudn’t intrude) … great views around really, so I really must go back up … I’ll have a chat with the lovely folk at front of house and see what I can arrange for a slightly quieter time, so I have better access to the windows without getting in anyone’s way … Also of course, bu daylight I wouldn’t have the lights from the bar giving me reflections in the window to contend with! … let’s see then … :))
and thank you for you lovely comment of course !!! :))

Lovely cityscape image, I prefer the contrast of the dark city and twinly lights, spot on for me ;o)
This is simply amazing and im sure 1 drink would last you all night and give you a chance to photograph as it got darker and the citiy lights came on. What a contrast from the deer park to this. My excitement this week was pretending to have my invisability cloak and be a super hero on when on the playground. LOl
hmmmm up there you gotto book and then you get a time slot !!! we had an hour, that was it. They do need the turnaround – the place is small, drinks expensive … you know … :)
You been super hero on the playground?! Sounds fascinating!! – do tell more?

never mind Mark … I new what you were trying to say ;) and I appreciate it :) thanks :))

Worry not, Bettina: the overcast conditions give the image its special impact
hmmm thank you John … to my surprise it seems that’s the consensus … I’ll have to order rain for next time that doesn’t rain against the window that I’m trying to photograph through though so I can get a clearer image ;)

You know if there were drinks anywhere near my job , left alone a roof top , I sure wouldn’t go with folks I work with ..LOL
Great shots!!! (no pun intended)
hmmmm well, working in the Square Mile you can hardly walk to the next street corner without passing 5 or so pubs … !!! I think that place breeds workaholics & alcoholics at pretty much the same rate …
… the rooftop toasting experience should ideally be enjoyed with a more “significant” counterpart … but then, if I’d have been up there on a date, I don’t think it’d have been appreciated if I’d left my glass standing on the table and ignored the company in favour of the view through my viewfinder …
thank you for the no-pun lovely compliment ;) I do appreciate it! Loads!

typical city type, one expenses drink at the posh bar and you are hooked ;) Think the rain really makes this shot
well, Richard … it’s good to be versatile and appreciative of many diverse things … and yes – I can appreciate posh about as much as I can appreciate simple … :)
