Into god's canvas ...
2nd January 2009 – what a stunningly beautiful day! We’d had the heaviest snowfall that London has seen in the past 18 years or so. All public transport was a total shambles and the city of London came to a grinding halt as folk could not get to into the city / to the office.
Instead, people headed outdoors to enjoy the splendour of the day!! What a delight!

what a transformation the snow makes – brilliantly captured! sounds like you had heaps of fun
:))
BettinaSchwarz replied
lol … I did have loads of fun, yes … though others went dippy on the day, skidding down hills on For Sale signs and snowbording in the woods and stuff … very funny :)
(and missing a day in the office was a welcome godsend too :) )
Karen Betts
Love this capture of us humans coming back to nature and having to slow down and enjoy what we have around us. Almost reminds me of a victorian image.
BettinaSchwarz replied
Karen! I like your thinking!!! There’s been something about this shot which had a sort of “feel” and I couldn’t put my finger on it … you’ve just done it … how wonderful are you :)
And yeah, mother nature simply “brings us back to earth” ... lol
Karen Betts
Thank you Bettina, for your lovely comment about what i wrote, i just look and see what i feel about images sometimes and the above was immediate. it is a stunning elegant image. well done : )
Sandy Warren
It doesn’t happen hear often either, and hasn’t been this heavy at our place in about 12 years. This is gorgeous!
BettinaSchwarz replied
thank you Sandy :) glad you like :)
Von McKnelly
Has a Norman Rockwell feel to it…I like playing in God’s gardens any time of year.
BettinaSchwarz replied
Von – that’s one hellova comment regarding this shot! What a delight!
And yes, I hear … playing in god’s garden is what it’s all about :) ...
Dohmnuill
I agree with Von McKnelly’s comment above, Bettina. The placement of the people is well done, and you can immediately appreciate their anticipation of a walk or ride.
BettinaSchwarz replied
Thanks so much Dohmnuill!!
When I was there to photograph the scene I had no idea I was going to have such fabulous participants in the shot lol … certainly wasn’t expecting the bloke on his bike on such a snowy day! But what a delight to have them appear and “make” the image!!
Kevin Bergen
I’m so glad you took your camera outside with you! I’m very drawn into your composition here. Real nice!
BettinaSchwarz replied
Thank you Kevin :) I’m glad you like it!!
It the two lovely people in the shot who make it, I believe … I have another shot of the location, minus the individuals, and it simply does not have the same feel …
The fact that I had my camera with me … well … it was the heaviest snowfall the London area had seen in 18 years … that was worth photographing! Spent 5 hours walking out there … had to defrost after, but was delighted with the entire experience :)
Martin Mullen
An excellent composition – it catches your eye.
BettinaSchwarz replied
I’m delighted it caught your attention Martin :) thank you for your comments :)

This is so beautiful, excellent work, I live in Chester UK, when you had that snow we hadn’t any, we had nothing in 2009, strange when we knew what the south had, take care Ann
