It’s been way too long since I posted anything … and even longer since I’ve been able to get out and shoot. Here’s one that I shot last winter at Fort DeSoto near St. Petersburg, Florida. I tried out some new filters and finally got the look I wanted on the surface of the water :)

This is really nice, Beth. Everything in the picture seems to be in just the right position and the light is perfect for the subject.

  • Hi John, I really appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

This is just fabulous,Beth…can’t belive you’ve been holding onto this since last winter…what a stunning image with gorgeous tones and simply superb display of the solitary life of the heron and the vastness of the world he exists in….the sky looks incredible and that bridge way in the distance has a perfect defined look…wow, what a winning shot…

  • Thanks Kat! I’ve got a few more I’ve been holding onto … stayed tuned :) I just bought the Topaz filters and I’m glad I held a few back from my trip to Florida.

The bright pale golden tones on the water are just gorgeous, and you can’t miss with a heron in the frame. :) I also like the way the distant bridge sets a limit for the composition and helps establish depth.

  • Thank you so much Celeste! There’s just something to say about shooting in that “magic hour” … there’s no way to fake it – even with photoshop :)

The crane looks as though he’s king of all he surveys – all that water to fish in! Whatever filter you used , the water is especially beautiful and I very much like the simplicity of this photo.

  • You’re right, he really does look kingly. (I should probably rethink the name of it based on your feedback.) thanks for stopping by!
