Lone Gondolier
This is one of 2 pictures I am loading of the Grand Canal, I have a few more, but these where the 2 I been debating over for a while. I like them both for different reasons and could not decide which I preferred.
This one I like for the subtle reflection and the light on the homes along the bank, and of course the Lone Gondolier.
It was a day full of many seasons, the few days we were there at about 3.30pm the clouds got very dark and it poured like we were in the tropics. Only to clear up as fast as it came around 4pm, and then we could all venture out again. Venice is a magical place.

What a beautiful serene shot. The colors are so wonderful, but I like the peaceful feeling the best. I’m guessing it’s because of the moody sky but yet wonderful sunlight coming in to light up the buildings. Wonderful Shot!!

Taken from the bottom side of the Rialto! I love the sky and cloud contrast with the white tones of the buildings… but the gondola sets the photo on a whole new level! Congrats on the feature by the way!!!

Perhaps chasing a mental rainbow,
Perhaps another dream,
Perhaps only the solitude,
Or….the sun’s wobbly gleam,
Taken alone or a passenger inside,
He is quiet, this fellow,
This gondolier gliding the stream,
Past mindless windows,
Past foundations green,
Each piece of moss,
Such lichens and stone,
Doors to empty hallways,
Echoes and grinning waves,
He wanders the waterway,
Past expressionless days
Was he grown for this,
Apprenticed and papered,
Or just one day, he bought this boat
Covered the seats, and took his fare?
What will be tomorrow to this leathered man,
The thoughts behind his narrowed eyes,
And that Venice tan.
A Lone Gondolier
