Melancholia by

Not meant to indicate any kind of sadness, but if you’ve watched the film of the same name (Kirsten Dunst, Alexander Sarsgard) you might get why I called this photo that – it does look like there’s a large second ‘planet’ on a collision course with our world!

The effect, which is more pronounced if you look at it larger was created by the moon being veiled by thin clouds, which created bright light but not quite enough to overpower the many stars out that night.

If you liked the movie (and I did), the journal entry for the premiere is here

Pentax K-5, Sigma 10-20mm @10mm, 30sec exposure, ISO3200

About berndt2

Bernd Talasch doesn’t remember being hatched in a research laboratory in Omaha in the late 1950s so maybe that never happened. (Placeholder bio – remember to replace).
