The achingly beautiful but aggressively vegetarian (but otherwise friendly) girl sitting next to me had spent the whole trip mostly blankly looking at her TV screen (which might even have been turned off) and at one point had mixed some strange sweet-smelling concoction using hot water she’d gotten off a stewardess.
It was all scary enough to keep me silent for most of the flight, hoping she wouldn’t judge me for the chicken teriyaki dinner I’d had. (And… like… I’m not sure if chocolate is allowable if you’re vegan. Or biscuits. Or…. softdrinks). I helped her get her bag down, I hope that counted for something.
However, when she pulled up the shutters a little before we came in to land at Narita in Tokyo, I saw the unmistakable cone shape of Mt Fuji above the wing, outside the window, and got up, grabbed the camera out of the overhead compartment, and fired off a couple of shots.
Pretty girls intimidate me. But photography takes precedence. And you don’t get to see Mt Fuji like that every day.

Nice and reamy Bernd, just like the girl I guess.
Wow…that is beautiful and those wispy clouds……..
Pretty girls should be intimidated by you with a camera in your hand!
This is gorgeous. :) (Hilarious description, by the way.)

Backgroud funny – photo amazing.

Breathtakingly beautiful! Nice story too. I would have had my camera already around my neck, and would have shot this scene 100 times, hogging the window, deliriously enthralled with this “welcome to Japan” scene. Did you get a bunch, or were you more interested in the intriguing girl? This really is gorgeous, with that lovely “gradient” of prismatic color.
Thank you so much! I was more interested in the girl UNTIL I saw Mt Fuji – it would never have worked out between us I only got a grand total of two (2) shots between the shutter being taken up and me grabbing the camera (one slightly higher contrast than the other) – and then the plane banked a bit and I no longer had the angle required to take the shot. Had the two shots not worked out, I would have had enough time to take a few more, but I felt I’d invaded the lady’s personal space enough 8)
