A Bear Named Grylls by berndt2

Look, I’m not going to argue that this photo has major artistic merits (indeed – it was the wrong choice of lens as the shot prior to it had eye-contact and came out blurred with motion and poor focus…).

However, it is of Bear Grylls, and Bear Grylls is kind of awesome.

About two years ago I was at a premiere attended by no stars related to the film, but he showed up and I uttered the words “Who or what the hell is a ‘Bear Grylls’??” and was duly set straight on my ignorance.

I kind of like the way he looks as if he’s looking at something that may or may not be edible, or usable to build shelter or a splint or rehydration aid. Or maybe whether it would be better to leap off the side of the building rather than waste time on the elevator or stairs….

Mr Grylls was in Waterstones in London for a book signing. The queue was so long it probably required its own survival skills to endure. I didn’t know the signing was on, had already read the book and hadn’t brought it with me. Aaaaargh!

He had two minders, though, which made me wonder : he’s ex-SAS, why does he need minders??

Bernd Talasch doesn’t remember being hatched in a research laboratory in Omaha in the late 1950s so maybe that never happened. (Placeholder bio – remember to replace).

I enjoyed you narrative, and I agree with you, it is not always about the perfect artistic shot but sometime it’s just the awesomeness of the subject. They don’t come more awesome than Bear Grylls :)
