The 2010 ARIA (Australian Record Industry Association) Awards were held in Sydney at the Opera House forecourt on November 7th. And even though I’ve never necessarily been a fan of (or particularly knowledgeable about) Australian Music, I decided to buy a ticket and go.
Fortunately I was able to get my preferred camera into the event and not have to rely on a newly purchased albeit promising mobile phone camera to take photos.
This is a shot of Megan Washinton (aka, I’m told ‘Washington’) who won several awards on the night and also performed. And because this is just between you and me, I’ll be honest and say I’d never heard of her prior to this night!
And I have to say, even though I’m a bit so-so on her genre and style of music, this kind of performance at this kind of venue was pretty brilliant.
And there’s something about this shot (more so than the others of her that are more front-on and sharper) that really appeals to me. It came out looking more like an illustration than a photo. I think.
But then I haven’t gotten that much sleep since I stayed up til 2am yesterday editing and culling my photos.
I’d say the shot looks slightly more impressive enlarged because the highlights on her look a bit better and you can see that there is a bit more detail there than first appears.
