'The Theory of Everything' premiere - Redmayne! Lloyd! Jones! HAWKING!

Hello,

and after a rather horrific experience (mostly my doing) at the 2014 BIFAs – the British Independent Film Awards, I was luckily back on ‘the horse’ soon after doing a premiere…. in this case the premiere for “The Theory of Everything”.

Here’s how it went down (as usual, the larger and more complete journal is available by clicking this link )

Highlights:

Unlike (say) last week’s World Premiere of The Hobbit : Battle of the Five Armies
it seemed nobody was camping out for this movie. Surprising – who knew physics students didn’t camp for movies?

“I know the suit is awesome.. that’s why I’m making sure the tie works with it” Eddie Redmayne is best known for being in “My Week With Marilyn (2011)…

The 'Exodus : Gods and Kings' Premiere

It was a mere two days ago that I incredibly managed to take photos of the World Premiere of ‘The Hobbit : Battle of the Five Armies’
from OUTSIDE the premiere.

Today, in contrast, I was in a more privileged front-row spot and accomplished a lot less with it. These things happen. Still… here’s how it went down.

Note : as usual, the Longer version of this journal is at bernd-talasch.com

“I got three delivery trucks full of columns here for a Mr Ram Zees. Can I get this signed by Mr Zees?”

“Wait… The guy who directed Blade Runner is now directing a film where Batman is taking on Uncle Owen while Gandhi cameos???” Should be fascinating.

Wait…this movie also has a Terminator in it? I’m going to have to pick up a copy of The Bi…

'The Hobbit : Battle of the Five Armies" World Premiere

First, I missed the 2012 Hobbit premiere because I was in Australia and the premiere was in London. Then I missed the 2013 Hobbit premiere because I was in London and the premiere was in Berlin.

And this time the premiere was on a Monday and people had been camping out from the previous THURSDAY, while I was going to be in (of all countries) Germany until the Sunday evening the night before.

This was going to be tricky.

So I got to Leicester Square early on Monday morning, to find that 1,600 wristbands had already been given out for the premiere a day earlier, and the queue for an unknown number of the remainder was over 100 people long at 6:30am…. and 400 by the time I returned at 11am.

For now, I found a spot alongside one of 3 separate queues for wristband holders, of whom I was …

The 'Unbroken' Premiere

November 25th, 2014.

A mere 2 days after incessant rain cost me a 50mm f1.8 lens and a chance to photograph Kate Moss (I’ll leave you to guess which one annoyed me more), I was back out again, this time for the Angelina Jolie-directed “Unbroken”. Here’s how it went down:

In the wake of the loss of my 50mm f1.8 at the “Paddington” premiere on Sunday, today I had a 10-20mm wide-angle lens so wide it literally sees inside itself. Wacky!

“White balance be damned, my hand looks AMAZING!!”

My ‘primary ’spot has a partially direct view of the stage, which sadly a giant boom mike and camera is being made to hover at stars’ face-level for. It’s a living. (My regular job, that is)

“No, I haven’t watched Mockingjay p

The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part1 Premiere

I won’t be backfilling all the premieres I missed during my “three month absence from Redbubble” but I will be doing some of the major ones, just for completeness’ sake.

Here’s one that’s as big (and disappointing?) as they come. Because for some inexplicable reason, this WORLD PREMIERE for the Hunger Games took up an area less than HALF the size the previous premiere did last year. I have no idea why.

The Bigger version of this journal is here

Instead of a cozy second row spot, my wristband #322 got me a spot around Row 5 in a public pen occupied by the kind of people I’d be happy to have as members of opposing districts in any Hunger Games I might be a participant in. The expression on this girls’ face now pretty much mirrors what mine was…

The 'Paddington' Premiere - Kidman! Broadbent! Bonneville

Hello,

and for my first premiere ‘back on redbubble’, I’ve gone for this weekend’s washed out weekend premiere of the new ‘Paddington’ film.

The main journal will be at My Own website at www.bernd-talasch.com but here’s a sample:

It’s the Paddington World Premiere, and either this guy is wearing an adorable hat, or he’s wearing the main character’s skin over his head. So I’m trying to figure out whether this is very cute or unspeakably horrifying

“This is one of those xylene based sharpies, isn’t it? It’s not just for signing autographs, is it?” This is Ben Whishaw, arguably best known for playing the new “Q” in the most recent James Bond film.

What I Learned in 3 Months Away from Redbubble

So back in August, I’d finally had enough. Redbubble had no only removed yet another not-for-sale (yet-apparently-DMCA-infringing) work from my portfolio and followed it with the usual abject silence to my inquiry of “no… seriously… wtf?”.

And that I could handle.

But then I made a sale.

Which surprised me, because in protest at Redbubble removing works that weren’t even for sale from Redbubble…… I decided to (childishly) make ALL of my works NOT FOR SALE.

And then I sold something. And then I checked and learned that over FIFTY of my works that I’d made Not For Sale were now, in fact, for sale.

Cue yet another “no… seriously… wtf?” type inquiry of Redbubble, to which they replied with “umm… sorry. e…

...

After a week away from this site, and part of another week to give it some thought, I’ve decided that I’m leaving Redbubble. At least for now. Possibly for longer. I get the feeling that the longer I stay away, the easier it will be.

After having (yet another) Not-For-Sale work removed by Redbubble for somehow breaching publicity rights while not being for sale….and then feeling like I’d been told to go f*ck myself when I sent a counter-notice to have it reinstated (on the grounds of “explain how there is commercial gain in a not-for-sale image (also… explain Facebook and Flickr in that case)”)… I’ve had enough. Especially when all you have to do is type “Game of Thrones” into the search function on this website to see Redb…

Begin Again event - Knightley! Ruffalo! Corden!

For some reason, London is currently experiencing a drought. By which I mean not only is it not raining a lot, but there have basically been no premieres for nearly a month, and there won’t be any until about the 24th July. Which is crazy! … it’s like… other than take my chances with Quadrichopper-based photography, will I do?

Well… there’s always the occasional event at the Apple Store. In this case…. a pretty large one.

It’s a movie, it’s out in a couple of weeks, and rather than lay out a red carpet, they’re doing an event at the Apple Store. I hope this is not a sign of accountants deciding that the glitz and glamour of a London Premiere is no longer required. Because I Assure you, Messrs Accountants Et Al, that it totally, t…

Walking on Sunshine premiere - Leona Lewis! Greg Wise! Emma Thompson!

With premieres somewhat thin on the ground in the upcoming months, I decided to make metaphorical hay (and literal pixels) while the sun shone and head down to Leicester Square for a movie that was on my radar only insofar as it was a giant warning sign. If for no other reason than the movie cites one of my favourite not-so-guilty pleasures “Pitch Perfect” as one of two ingredient movies in this 1980s feelgood movie.

Of all the stars, I’d heard of one. Well… two if you include the lady I’d never heard of until I photographed her just one premiere earlier.

Here’s how this one went down.

“Walking on sunshine? More like kneeling on pink, am I right?” The colour balance on my cameras wasn’t liking it, and my retinas were assuming some very…
