"Blur No Distance To Run" Premiere (That guy from blur! And the other three!) by berndt2

Posted on January 15, 2010

Last Jan/Feb, Leicester Square paid host to fifteen premieres of various sizes, and given this January and February are my last two in London before I ship off elsewhere, I was hoping to farewell the place with a similar haul.

So imagine my disappointment when so far, the total announced is a mere FOUR. And this morning I learned that one of the websites I rely upon has backfilled and noted down two that I’ve MISSED so far (and the other website didn’t even note them. So I’m not a particularly happy camper right now.)

However, there was once this band called Blur, and they have a new movie out, and it had a premiere. Which was small, but it had both a Red carpet and a Yellow Cap Guy. And so… I’m off for 2010!

No Distance Left To Run is a movie from/about the band Blur. Growing up in Australia, I might anger a lot of Brits by saying “they had that one song they used in the trailer for Starship Troopers and that Simpsons superbowl episodes and that’s pretty much it”. However, per wikipedia the band had five consective UK number one Albums. Which is not insubstantial.

(Man on right) “Will the band show up? Will the band show up?? And more importantly, will…..?”

YES!!!!

The temperature is lounging around freezing point and it’s about an hour before the premiere starts. Working in the field of entertainment news does have its not-always-so-awesome aspect. (In my case, being stuck next to two dudes who spent the whole time waiting laughing raucously at NOTHING was also not exactly rock’n’roll either)

I have no idea who this guy is (and in my defence neither does wireimage.com) and more frustratingly I don’t know if the guy with the shaggy hair who kept blocking views of him was more famous than him, less famous than him, or not at all famous at all.

All I know is that they’re not from the band Blur, so I’m calling them the Wachowski brothers, who directed The Matrix trilogy, regardless of how implausible their attendance would be.

The band has arrived! And true to form, I can tell you that the guy on the left is ‘That Guy From Blur’ and the guy on the right is Damon Alban (I know that because the perpetually laughing dudes to my right were mistakenly calling him ‘Damian’. Laugh it up, dudes)

Blur’s Damon Alban appears to be getting the crowd to sign autographs for HIM? (Perhaps he’s misunderstood how these Premiere things work?)

So obviously, I’ve heard of ‘Song2’ (woo-oo! / insert guitar-riff)…. but “Beetlebum”???

I think this is the dude from Blur who was featured in that famous cartoony-portrait on the album cover? (Seriously, “Beetlebum??”)

It was all very civilised until the guys with lightsabers showed up (?)

It’s Graham Coxon and Alex James! (and yes, that means I finally relented and looked up a group shot on wireimage to find out who these people are!)

Three of the four guys from Blur… ever so slightly flash/motion blurred. (Don’t tell me I’m not subtly subversive like that!)

From my notes of the night:
“Guy with stripey t-shirt and cartoony coat and glasses; Guy who looks strangely younger than the rest of the band; Friendly Guy carrying green bottle of possibly alcoholic liquid throughout the premeire; and Their Accountant Friend” (Again, in my defence, I’m from Australia)

So…. That’s that then. There are two more premieres this month, and one next month. And there’s also me… praying for some late announcements for more premieres. C’MON!!!

Does it join the archive of movie premieres? IT HAS TO!
