"Nowhere Boy" Premiere (Scott-Thomas! Taylor-Wood!)
Well, finally we’ve reached the end of the British Film Festival. Tonight’s closing Gala was for the young John Lennon biopic “Nowhere Boy”. Rumours were rife that the organisers were looking at getting some big names to show up – the surviving Beatles, Sir Elton John…. Clint Eastwood was in town doing filming, George Clooney had already been to three premieres why not a fourth, and of course there was always John Hurt.
And, when the dust finally settled…. well, let’s say none of the above showed, even Yellow Cap Guy was Missing In Action, and photo for the day ended up being of an Aston Martin DB5. But don’t let that stop you (me) from heading out and seeing what transpired anyway!

“Tom, I’m here at the premiere for ‘Nowhere Boy’. Yellow Cap Guy is not here, and the Pentax K10D belonging to that guy over there is already looking forward to a quieter couple of weeks once tonight is over”

If this is David Morrissey (and perhaps it is).... then this is David Morrissey, who has had a mixed and prolific career in film and television and stage. Let’s just say he’s been in “Sense and Sensibility”, “The Legend of the Waterhorse” and he was the male lead in “Basic Instinct 2”

Wiring up – not always successful when not done discreetly

This is Director Sam Taylor-Wood. Per wikipedia, “In 2002, Taylor-Wood was commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery to make a video portrait of David Beckham sleeping.” I… have nothing further to add. Nice dress, though.

This is (I believe) Thomas Sangster. If so, he plays Paul McCartney in this movie. The pseudo-military jacket design may not be thematically accurate, but it is kind of cool.

This is Aaron Johnson, who plays John Lennon in the film, and is also engaged to Sam Taylor-Wood. I do like the expression on his face…

Excitingly, this was an ‘and other’ mis-fire where I looked at the hair and the sunglasses at night and the groovy posture and went ‘celeb for sure’. Instead, he was the companion of somebody wireimage identified as Alison Goldfrapp. Whom I didn’t photograph. Oops!

Actress Kristin Scott-Thomas was Academy Award™ nominated for Best Actress for “The English Patient” and was also in “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, “Mission Impossible” and “The Horse Whisperer”. She also has a steely gaze…

...although being a talented actress, she is also capable of other, more interesting expressions!

... and for the fifth time so far I’ve had to go on wireimage and wikipedia to note that this is actress is Anne Marie Duff, who has been in… films. And TV shows.

... make that sixth time. This is Dexter Fletcher who was in … oh, look “Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels” and the abysmally/cutely titled and agonising to watch “L4YER CAK3” (where the ‘3’ is backwards). Although I’m apparently in the minority in intensively disliking the film, as it has an 80% positive rating on rottentomatoes.com

This is Jarvis Cocker, former frontman of the band “Pulp”. Their song “Disco 2000” = Fantastic. “Common People” = even more so. And the Spoken word version of the latter by William Shatner? Attained a level of awesomeness that the world has rarely seen. I bought it. It’s on my iPod.
So… that was the end of that Film Festival. I kind of regret not going to the weekend premiere attended by Eva Green and Ridley Scott last weekend. The reason?... well.. there really was no good reason other than laziness. But still, a lot of premieres over a short period of time was a good thing.
Accordingly, this one will nestle happily among the other contents of The Archive of Movie Premieres
Although it may not necessarily provide any uploads for the “I’d-really-like-to-compile-a-second-one” Movie Premieres Calendar
Until next time!
