With premieres somewhat thin on the ground in the upcoming months, I decided to make metaphorical hay (and literal pixels) while the sun shone and head down to Leicester Square for a movie that was on my radar only insofar as it was a giant warning sign. If for no other reason than the movie cites one of my favourite not-so-guilty pleasures “Pitch Perfect” as one of two ingredient movies in this 1980s feelgood movie.
Of all the stars, I’d heard of one. Well… two if you include the lady I’d never heard of until I photographed her just one premiere earlier.
Here’s how this one went down.
“Walking on sunshine? More like kneeling on pink, am I right?” The colour balance on my cameras wasn’t liking it, and my retinas were assuming some very green tints on the faces of nearby…. everything.
Up until last Monday at the Kevin Spacey premiere for the movie whose name I’m already having trouble remembering because it was half an essay long, I’d never heard of actress Annabel Scholey. Now.. I’ve photographed her twice.
… we might even have made a connection. (Maybe she also shoots Pentax?)
This list of attendees for this premiere was pretty long, so I was reduced to photographing people on pure suspicion of being important. Hair-swaying bouncily on the runway? That doesn’t happen by accident.
I know who this is in an abstract sense, insofar as I photographed her way back during the first “Amazing Spider-Man premiere” – apparently she and her dog won some kind of talent competition back then, and apparently there’s going to be a movie starring the dog released sometime soon (that’s not so much a joke as it is a premiere I’ve got flagged for when Guardians of the Galaxy gets announced on the same day if I’m really unlucky).
I don’t know for sure who this is, but I have a strong suspicion (also known as ‘hope’) that this is Maisie Williams, who is Arya Stark in Game of Thrones. Argument in favour : she was on the list as a possible attendee, plus I watch the show. Argument against : did not pose in front of the paparazzi, was not called over to sign autographs for dealers within view (and they’re usually very good at that sort of thing).
A photo of The List that I took earlier suggests this guy is Giulio Berruti, but he’s kind of indistinguishable to me from his similarly-named co-star Guilio Corso. In my defense (a) guys all wear tuxes to these things, (b) Annabel Scholey and I may or may not have been sharing a moment. so I’m not really focussing or keeping track of Giulios right now.
The hyperbolist in me wants to say that this is the best tattoo ever. But I’ve seen a photographer with a lens focusing and aperture ring tattooed on their wrist and that’s kind of awesome…
“Either that girl showed up in the same dress as me and I need to kill her, or I need to get glasses before I pick up another murder rap” Ella Purnell was, intriguingly, in both Kick-Ass 2 and Maleficent, neither of which had London premieres. (So in true ‘tree falling in the woods’ fashion, can those movies be said to exist?)
“If a tree falls in the woods and I see it but don’t hear it, I still wouldn’t say for sure that it happened” In her defense…. her hair is stunning.
“I must go to her. For her hair is stunning, as is mine. Our children’s hair would make grown men weep” Yeah, well… both my parents (and siblings) have great hair. I on the other hand, have a very efficient heat dispersal mechanism in hot weather while they do not.
I’ve been assured that ‘Bonnie Langford’ is kind of a big deal in British Culture, but I can’t remember why. I’m sorry – if you weren’t involved in a recent movie or on Game of Thrones, you don’t really fall on my radar.
Leona Lewis is best known for being the winner of the 3rd series of X-Factor back in 2006, which she successfully parlayed into actual ongoing musical success, based (seemingly) on actual talent. I write that as a compliment. In other news, I’m not particularly good at compliments, even genuine ones.
Nowadays, I wear my Lonsdale Hoodie like this also. Because I think it looks stylish. It’s grey.
“Donnie? I can’t talk right now, plus this is an invisible phone and you’re not real”
I believe this is Katy Brand, as distinct from Katie Brand, who is now Katie Perry again because she divorced Russell Brand…. so I’m guessing on balance either Katy Brand is happy because she’s now married to Russell Brand instead of Katie Perry, or because she’s now the only Katy Brand.
Greg Wise, along with wearing kilts to premieres (refer evidence), has also been in Sense & Sensibility (1995), several episodes of Homefront, and Johnny English (2003). Sense & Sensibility, incidentally, also starred the lovely Emma Thompson, who by sheer coincidence ….
… at this premiere (they’re married)
“This photo is lovely, but I think we can do better, don’t you?” I love it now that stars are taking a more proprietal interest in making sure portraits with fans turn out well.
“Do you want to delete this photo, reformat the card, reset the camera to factory settings and disconnect your hot water? Are you sure one button can do all that??”
Not enough passionate orators choose necklaces of quite such colour and size beads, I find. Check your local listing for documentaries on dictators and despots if you don’t believe me.
Hannah Arteron continues the theme of ‘awesome hair’ that this premiere has going for it. I’ll just be standing here, waiting for Mark Strong, Stanley Tucci, and possibly Jessie Eisenberg as future Lex Luthor to join me where I’m starnding.
I may lack the stunning hairstyle (and sharp suit) (and height) (and movie career) (and cool Italian-sounding name) (and piercing blue eyes)… but my stubble can look at least 80% as good as this. Sometimes.
“Hi Y’all” I’m projecting a comfortable American southern accent onto actress Hannah Arteron, although I have no idea where she’s from as I wasn’t paying attention (me and Annabel Schoely are apparently an item, if you’re keeping up with the latest rumours I’m starting)
The expression on the face of the P.A. doesn’t quite fit any of the rumours I’m starting or contemplating, but I feel compelled to post the photo anyway.
Possibly lonely, possibly just waiting, possibly not Giulio Berruti but Guilio Corso, or possibly Giulio Berruti himself…. this is a man. That’s all I’ve got.
“Oh, I get it… it’s like you’re shooting a movie, but only individual frames, and without a soundtrack” well, when you put it that way, you make it sound all unsexy..
The man on the right as ‘noteworthy’ insofar as he’s this movie’s director Max Giwa… however this movie was also directed by Dania Pasquini, who on a vague google search looks like the woman on the left. So I’m not sure, but let’s be honest, I didn’t watch Street Dance 2 or Street Dance 3D and really am not in the target market for this movie unless they’ve withheld the helicopter gunship battles and Hans Zimmer action score from the soundtrack and the trailer.
So.. that was another one. If the websites I trawl for news of these things are accurate, I’m going to be on a bit of a hiatus from premieres for a while. That’s okay… I’ve got that “Drone Flying Thing” I can work on. Plus I can attempt to prune, water or somehow beautify the growing behemoth that is My Archive of Movie Premieres and includes Now : In the Wings of a World Stage – Kevin Spacey! Others, Belle – Mbatha-Raw! Gadon! Felton! Wilkinson! , Edge of Tomorrow – Tom Cruise! Emily Blunt! Doug Liman! , The Amazing Spider-Man 2 – Garfield! Stone! Foxx! DeHaan! Webb!
