Desert Rose
I’m not sure about this photo’s broader appeal – I really like it because it represents a time and a place where all the elements kind of came together – the girl walking on the road, the expression and body language of the vendor, the yellow of the desert and the black ribboning streak of the road winding into the distant mountains of Sinai, Egypt.
And yet I’m taking it on a digital SLR while listening to an iPod standing outside an airconditioned tour bus that has only stopped momentarily en route to somewhere completely different.
I am the stranger here, and the scene is completely ordinary and remarkable to everyone involved. But even though only a few hours later I climbed Mt Sinai, this was pretty much always a lock-in for Photo For The Day

Good composition of the scape by people are a bit too small for any impact. Too bad you couldn’t come closer.

very nice… i know what you mean by all of your description… the ‘little’ people are very interesting… give a sense of perspective to what is a huge landscape.

Wider appeal? This is awesome. A photograph full of questions. Great composition, I like that the open space is made up of a small patch of sky, but a huge panaroma of “land space”. Great work.
