This was taken during a training exercise. Our mission was to rescue and get the hostage out of enemy territory as well as getting photographs of everything. This exercise was to teach us the importance of getting our photographs but also not doing anything to compromise our safety while completing a mission.

The girl on the left portrayed the hostage. She accidentally got shot right beside the eye with a paintball. Everyone else had the proper headgear and equipment except for the hostage.-Granted, we did not get her out alive (figuratively). The Marine on the right helped to take care of the wound. -She ended up with just a black eye. -If it had been any closer she could have lost an eye.

I was the last one on the scene (where they were taking care of her). Everyone else was just standing around. I pushed them aside and got pictures of the whole experience- Just like we are taught to. —This is one of my favorite photos I took while at DINFOS
