In honor of Ahmad Shah Massoud, the Lion of the Panjshir. Fought for decades against the Afghan Communists, the Soviet Union, the Taliban and al-Qaida. Brilliant, principled and courageous. Martyred on September 9, 2001, two days before September 11th. A true mujahed and a true Muslim. Takhar Province, Afghanistan. Fall 1991. A never-before published photograph.

Thanks coffeetea. This was a once-in-a-lifetime photograph. I have several more to share but wanted to make sure that I got something up before September 9th.
An unpublished photo. Kind of like finding an unpublished manuscrpit of a master composer. A man who fought for what he believed in.
Thanks Dayonda. I’ve been waiting a long time for the opportunity to show these photographs. He was a truly amazing man.

beautiful portrait of a courageous man,,,I have seen several documentaries on his life, and the world needs more people like him… well done
Thanks midzing. I just read a quote that was attributed to him. An interviewer asked him what the worst moment in his life was and he supposedly answered, “I’ve had so many worst moments in my life that I don’t know which moment was the worst.” It’s amazing that after all he had been through in his life he was still able to retain his humanity.
