Godspeed 1st Lt. Victor Bahr
My Great Grandpa Bahr earned a new set of wings Jan. 31st, 2oo9 when he went to be with the Lord. This man was a true hero to countless numbers. My cousin V.J. Vanmeter said it best with this poem he wrote!
Who Was Victor Bahr
Victor Bahr was a lot of things to a lot of people:
To all who came in contact with him, he was a master story teller and someone who could weave a story for hours although it was really only a ten minute story
To his friends and neighbors he was the man you could count on to help you in your time of need
To his wife, he was a loving provider who help down many different jobs only to come home and farm, sometimes only by the lights of his tractor well after dark
To a select few Victor Bahr was a stubborn old man that wouldn’t budge for anything
To some, he was a second father figure in their life who helped them with life decisions
To his B 24 crews, he was a war hero who brought in his bomber time and time again, even when it didn’t look like there was any way possible. This helped him earn the nickname “Greaser” because he always slid in on the last bit of fuel or just before the plane fell apart
To his VFW buddies he was a brother in arms and a brother in love
To his 4 daughters he was simply “Daddy” and forever will be, no matter how old they get
To his many grandkids and great grandkids he was Mr. Fix-It. Growing up that man could fix anything, whether it was the fishing reel Joey and I had used too much that is broke, or a garage window we broke while playing baseball in his garage
And lastly, to Jesus he is a son who He waited 88 years to call Home. Now Grandpa has all those saints in Heaven to tell all of his stories to. If I was a betting man, I would bet Grandpa is still at the pearly gates talking the ears of St. Peter and telling him the stories we all came to know and love.
See you later Grandpa

If you’ve noticed I’ve been missing, I’ve been dealing with this terrible loss and having no electricity for like 6 days up until Monday. I’m trying to catch up a little today and I apologize now if I miss anything!

I’m sorry for your loss. That was a very nice story, and he seemed to be a great man

He was great man with many stories to tell. Back in the day he started our local fire station with an old water truck. He was a bomber pilot WWII, a coal miner, a forester and so much more. For the longest time I thought he was just my grandpa, but he really had done everything and so many looked up to him. Thanks for you kind words they are much appreciated :)
