Kontomari Common Grave (1941)

On June 3, 1941, right after the Battle of Crete, German paratroopers under the commandment of Hauptmann Horst Trebes, entered the Cretan village of Kontomari (Greece) and shot dead 23 men and boys on the spot.
About 600 Cretan civilians were killed fighting as partisans during the Battle of Crete, and more than 5,000 were shot by the Germans in reprisals, both during the battle and in the 4-year long occupation that followed.
