A Star Is Bored
Featured in Digital Artists United
The birth of a star is often witnessed by other heavenly bodies in the night sky. Look into the starry night and you’ll be surprised by what you see. Enjoy the stillness, peer into the dark bits in between the stars. See as far as you can.
The nebula background to the left is based on a single NASA image. The model is Dollybeck – who just happens to have hair as red as the original NASA image. I’m listed in her portfolio as Ben Timages.
After combining the two photos in Photoshop, I opened it in Painter and hand painted the star-burst effect. It isn’t a filter!! (You can see the individual brush strokes in large versions of this image.)
The proceeds of all sales go to World Vision, an organisation dedicated to looking after children in Third World countries. .... EXCEPT, while it still runs through Phoenix Appeal, these proceeds will go to the RED CROSS VICTORIAN BUSHFIRE APPEAL.

Kerry McFarland
Wow, this is fantastic, and beautiful!
Casey Herman
Thanks Sean & Kerry. I’m just waiting to get a sample back from the printers, cos I’ve ordered this in 30” x 40” canvas, gonna stick it in the lounge. Hoping for some acceptable colours. Yep, I’ve given up on colour management for now, what with one monitor an LCD and the other a CRT and the printer …. god bless the printer. I now use the equivalent of electronic dice for colour management. So far, I’ve been lucky. Not skilled, just lucky, and that’s cool!

wah! so elegant and powerful_love your feeling of air, your feeling of inner feelings, thoughts, dreams, wishes… and yes, your feeling of color is absolutely welcome, dear friend_sky and your flights presented you a great vision of the world :-) wish you a good inspiration in next!
Casey Herman replied
Thanks, Igor … I’m very grateful to be able to use the NASA images as a base for all the fanciful thoughts that come from gazing into outer space. I appreciate your words.
Sheila Laurens
I’m really loving you work Casey !
Casey Herman replied
I really appreciate your comment, Sheila. And sorry for putting my reply in the wrong place (I’m not the only one here who’s made that mistake many, many times. DOH!!)

Beautifully sad how often, isn’t it… and the image brings that across. I think even untitled, I would feel a bit of sadness within the awe for the dying moments of a tired artist mind.
Casey Herman replied
Thanks for your kind words, Gordon, and yeah, I can relate to a vast expanse of deep sky creativity with too few stars of inspiration at the moment myself!
Wendy Slee
Fabulous explosion of ideas and inspiration…..... great concept!

Casey Herman replied

john403
This reminds me of the 1963 cover of Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert Heinlein. I really like this.
Casey Herman replied
Thanks John, I can see the likeness, in that there’s an upside down woman kissing the man … very surreal! What inspired me was that the original NASA image had a burst of red throughout it, and Donna also has very red hair, a massive head of curly red hair, and I wanted to take advantage of the combinations of the redness. It’s a pity in a way that you can’t actually see Donna’s beautiful hair. (hi, Donna)
