Ocean You

A little bit more sentimental..one of those times in your life when its time to put pen to paper!

Ocean You belongs to the following groups:

Picture the sky
All blues and greys
The long sunny days are left far behind us
But I almost feel at home in this place
With its overcast sentiment
Monotone of washing waves
Wash away our waiting graves

And its true what they say
Stone prevails
So I’ll be the rock while you crash against me
Standing strong but reacting gently
Yeah sure
You’ll wear me down in time

But for now my ocean, my sea,
I hold on
You’re everything to me
The storm, the thunder
The rain, the pain
My sole reason to remain
Embrace the coldness you throw me
You know me
I’ve grown accustomed to the swish as you sweep me by
It’s a shame you resist, I wish you’d let me try
So I catch each rain drop just to keep me dry
Hold back the tide before it drags me under
Quench that thunder, with a louder bang

Picture these words
In black and white
From long sunny days to an endless night
But still, I feel at home in this place
Just similes and metaphors,
Like an un-chartered island where I’m left to roam
A refuge far away from home

Stunning work…...the imagery is awesome. There is a painting, by someone or other :o) of a rock standing strong while the sea embraces it…......the rock is a man and the sea a woman….it is gorgeous…and I can just imagine that as you wrote. Truly a work of art.

  • Ben Ruskin replied

wow..i’d love to find that painting!you are soo kind with your compliments! thank you for making me smile! this poem really means a lot to me cos it was written at what i feel was a turning point in my life. i realised that i could be strong, sit out the storm yet again. but eventually i would lose. there’s no holding back the stubborness of the ocean!!

I actually can’t believe I haven’t commented this one! It’s of beautiful and epic proportions. “So I’ll be the rock while you crash against me
Standing strong but reacting gently” I think those lines are the most wonderful I’ve ever read in a poem, and I’ve read many poems. I’m truly amazed by this; it captures a feeling and makes the reader feel it also. This really is one of my favorite out of my favorite’s lol Ramblings over
