It would be too much to simply say
I loved and lost
And loved again
It would be more appropriate to say I wandered

I wandered endlessly, from time to time
Aimlessly it seemed, at times
Naivety in all its kindest forms
Lay the foundations

You could say I was chasing rainbows
But no matter how fast I ran
The mismatch of colours, bright and bold
Escaped my clutching fingers

And sure, I tasted nectar from time to time
Unexpectedly it seemed, at times
Naivety in all its kindest forms
Faded away to nothing

It would be too much to simply say
I loved and lost
And loved again
I think it’s safe to say I wandered

Wistful and gentle longing and an acceptance that love can’t be forced makes this well-crafted poem very appealing. And I think I hear a lovely melody and one or two guitars…
