It feels almost like
Opening the blinds to a brand new day
An awakening perhaps
A silent beginning
The birds calling
I wonder what they talk of
Would they be interested in what I have to say?

Opening the window
Just a crack to let the air in
The sweet smell of the morning breeze
Ha! Mixed with car fumes
Is this my revelation?
No, too subtle

Then perhaps it’s more like
Cutting back the hedges
To reveal a Secret Garden
I step through the gap I allowed myself to make
The sunlight filters through the gaps in the leaves from the trees above
You can hear the crunch of those that have newly fallen
Crunch, crunch beneath my feet

The sound of running water
Fills my senses
Washes away my doubts
I doubt I’ve seen anything more serene
Such a delightful little trickle
You could hardly call it a stream
You know what
I bet it’s more like a little reminder
Because it reminds me

A little bridge; stone and stately
And crookedly solid
Hardly necessary but it completes the picture
And what an image
That disappears in a heartbeat as I awake from my reverie

Thump, thump
A knock on the door
Yes, too subtle
