Sounds like a reformat is in store, or what the heck if your PC is old, get a new one.

That sucks Ben. I’ve been through that. However, my problem was memory (so I upgraded with little money). If my laptop stops anytime soon, I’m out of digital/online photography for a good while. I’m trying to save to get back to Europe, you see…
well, good luck with yours.

Ben it might be just a software problem so reformatting could do the job. Your video card or bad ram could be the problem aswell

i use to get that .. photoshop wouldnt open up.. and i did some search on google, and i came across threads from others with similar probs. Check if your preferance file for PS is there, or it could be corrupted..
here are some info i copy and paste for you :
_There is a preference file for every program that you use. If you throw away the current one for PS, it will create a new preference file when you restart Photoshop. Sometimes those preference files get corrupt when a program or computer freezes, crashes or sometimes for no reason at all.
Your on a PC and I am not sure where they are located on there, but you can run a search on ‘photoshop’ and it should come up as the file name being something like ‘Adobe Photoshop Prefs’ or something to that affect. Just take that file and throw it away, then reboot._
Another way to get rid of it is, as soon as Photoshop’s starting to load, hold down shift + ctrl + alt (be quick!), until it asks if you really want to delete the user’s settings. I did this, and it fixed the same problem you had

Here is another good page that explains in full about Photoshop preference click here
let me know how you go.. hopefully its this issue :)

If it worked previously and you are not having problems with other software, then you shouldnt need to get a new system, maybe a re-install of photoshop … or worst case reformat.

how did it go benjamin, still not working? did you try the Prefs?

I can see that you’re happy now but you might try running ccleaner and adaware (lavasoft.com) on a regular basis to get rid of any crap left from surfing.
