Does my stuff Grind Your GEARS?

I have noticed that all of the comments and critiques I have received on redbubble have been positive. While that is all good and I appreciate it, I am a fan for real harsh criticism. I have not sold a single piece so there must be something I’m doing wrong.. Is it the price, the content or is my profile picture too scary for most?

I welcome you to view my portfolio and really tear it apart in terms of harsh critiques, suggestions, what you DONT like… and what you do like.

I want to know why you don’t like it or why you do like it. Why does it float your boat, or why does it grind your gears.

I wont cry … too much, I promise :)

G’day mate! No, your stuff does not “grind my gears”!! Your work is fantastic. You may find criticism hard to come by here, this is an artists community, there is an overall uplifting feel about the people and the place. I don’t want to speak on behalf of everyone but i would suggest that if we don’t “like” a piece we wont comment on it! That doesn’t make it a bad piece of art, it just means it didn’t appeal to our senses. Criticism is for the classrooms and media, we want you to create as many beautiful things as you can, even if they are not beautiful to others! Benjamin, selling your art will happen, give it time mate. I understand that you would like to see sales going through the roof, it can and will happen but only when you least expect it! Keep your creative sprirt flying you never know whats just around the corner fr talented people like yourself and many others here in Red Bubble land!!

Your stuff is awesome.. I dont think you have to worry about that. And from your profile picture, you not too scary..and going by the suit.. maybe you need to kick start the promoting part.. not necessarily in here (cuz we know you here already) but more so outside.. websites, blogs, etc..

Check (add to watchlist) “James Pierce”“http://www.redbubble.com/people/james profile out who is looks after RBs Marketing side of things – and yesterday he launched the first newsletter/journal thang called Wrapped Up which will be concentrating on the sellers, marketing, promo and all that area..

i do believe its important we equally give time/effort into the promoting and getting the info out there – as we do into our equipment, processing, and doing the craft it self..

Thanks for your response guys. I understand that this is an artists community and it is a very good feeling when comments appear on my profile. It really is motivational and inspirational. And I guess your right Paul, I generally comment on pieces that I like, and not so much on pieces that I don’t.

I feel that I do need to promote myself a bit and I realise that a great photographer doesnt often just get somewhere because they are a great photographer, they have to also know how to sell and promote themselves.

gotta get out there and sell my first piece!

    Hey Cliff,

Your good at what you do, you just gotta promote yourself now… get seen by the right people. I guess you could start with your own website, and then send a portfolio to potential employers? perhaps freelance paintography? I dont know what work there is out there in your field but i’m sure you have a good idea. What do you do for work at the moment?

I dont wear a tie to work anymore, but I used to!
