My advice is to stop showing me up. I have a Sigma 50mm macro lense, and would be happy if I could get half this good.
Can I ask please – Do you use any sort of flash or just normal light. Do you know what aperture you set the camera on, and what film setting (ISO) do you use. Hope that not to much to ask.
Oh I forgot, wheres the pin. This has to be pinned in place, cause I will shoot 50 shots and they are moving so much that I can’t get the focus right.
This is just super, well done.

I think that looks great, I would be happy using that lens for now if you really don’t want to spend the money on a macro?

thanks so much mark! I have bought a flash but have no idea how to use it yet :-( if i use my built-in flash i use a diffuser over it (but didn’t use flash in this photo), this was outside in the garden on an overcast day. and i know what you mean about pinning these little guys down, they do move so damn fast that they are usually out of focus – i sat here for ages and took a gazillion shots and only a couple turned out!

Fabulous image Nicole! I just love all those little hairs… the colours are great, as is the DOF…. Fantastic!

Looks pretty good to me. I have a Tamron 90mm macro lens (given to me by my lovely friend Matt Mawson when he had a Canon tragedy). A third party lens does the trick rather nicely.

Thanks for your feedback. Do you know what aperture gave you the depth of field (depth of focus) you got.
Just on my macro lens. It reproduces 1:1, but in hind sight, you are so close, maybe 25 to 35mm away to get this, which is really hard (great on fixed subjects, but I guess you scare away spiders and bees). Longer lens that Sigma make, is I think a 100 and maybe a 150, which are still 1:1 but they do it from about 300mm away and optically they are quite good. About $700 I think. Vanbar are about the cheapest I have found as suppliers, but stock is sometimes an issue. Michaels usually have stock, but won’t move much on price.
