With most of my portraits I always play with the levels first, usually with a separate layer so I can mask out some areas if need be. With this one I did it a couple of times because it was quiet dark to start with – esp. the eyes… I clone out any skin imperfections and will add a soft guassian blur to the skin (masking out all other areas), you have to be carefull not too use to much. I also used a highpass sharpen with soft light blending mode (again with a separate layer) and masked out everything (except the eyes) with a 50% opacity (approx.). I played around with the hues and sat, contrast/brightness. I wasn’t entirely happy with the colours (still not sure I am), so played around with the colours a lot after it was all flattened, added a ‘sepia’ colour filter and masked out parts. I always ‘dodge and burn’ once the image is almost done especially around the eyes. If you are still unclear with my v. basic instructions, just bubblemail me and I will try to explain it better. hope this helps…

Most WONDERFUL portrait of your kids, Nicole.
They are both so beautiful… SO ADORABLE… I truly LOVE this scene.
Actually , a while ago, I saw very similar, yet different photo, which i thought to paint.
It’s indeed so difficult to take photos of kids, especially, if you take the photo of more then one kid, i know it from my own experiences.
