brown sugar trick
A little musing while I work…...because what’s the sweet without the sour?
brown sugar trick belongs to the following groups:
Lesbian and Bi-Women's Art, Melbourne & Victoria, The Word Tree and WMGYou’re a peach
you said
and I tried to smile
But really
we both know
I’m not that sweet
I think of pomegranates
where burnished skin
hides the bruise
at my core
and I spit seeds
as I climb
above ground
but most days
I’m a lemon
my citrus smile
is an acquired taste
but once
you know
the brown sugar trick
you spit
my pips
with joy

“squeeze my lemons, baby, till the juice runs down my leg…”
(gotta adore Robert Plant for that line)
(but not as much as I adore this and you)

I don’t know where this came from…..but I enjoyed writing it, almost as much as I enjoyed reading your comment! x

I wonder if you were listening to the song when you wrote this? It is probably one of the best stones songs ever. (apart from angie) love the ending and the metaphors, excellent writing
bellmusker replied
I was about to ask “which song?” but your mention of the Stones should’ve told me :
) No, I don’t own any Stones, can’t say I know this song at all. I’m just a woman of extremes, and I needed a counterbalance to my tartness….seemed to be exactly what the occasion called for! Thanks, Red :)jemimalovesbigted
I was trying to think of something clever to say, but failed. So instead I will say that lemon and sugar make lemonade and lemonade is delicious…
bellmusker replied
Then let’s have one tomorrow night, shall we? whispers do you think we could add some tequila? ;-)
jemimalovesbigted
done! =D

You’re a peach
...which has a hard stone in the middle, inside of which is a bitter almond taste – slightly nutty…?
Or just a little tart ;-)
No wonder RN has selected your work – such feeling in so few words.
bellmusker replied
Hhhmmmm, slightly nutty and just a little tart….there is so much I could say to that! Cheers for the kind words on my writing Duncan, much appreciated.

i don’t know what it is that i love about this piece more: the imagery of thick brown sugar crystals mushed between the bruisy dark flesh of pomegranates, or the calling of persephone from her goddess seat below, or the rejuvenation of citrus scents which reminds me of the lemon tree in the garden of a house on your street that i considered plucking wares from like i collected my little bouquets of lavender… or maybe it’s that on the day you wrote this you came home and told me about it, your eyes glittering with the joy of words falling from your fingertips amongst your breadwinning baking duties… whatever it is beautiful woman, i savour and relish every single one of these 71 little words so much.
bellmusker replied
I was just looking at my couch, thinking, Holly slept here this morning, when your comment appeared. Now I’m smelling cherry beer, peppermint oil, lavender bunches and the delectable scent of violets…..you always leave a tiny part of yourself here, baby. And yes, I came home to tell you about these 71 words, and they fell out of my pen easier knowing you’d listen. x x x x
