my inky mouth

Sometimes the muse just wants to play with you.

You should always let her.

Otherwise she gets cranky; and that ain’t pretty.

my inky mouth belongs to the following groups:

Blue Room, Melbourne & Victoria, The Sensual Word, The Word Tree and WMG

Look here
-------no, wait
-------------here
------—-and blink
now

I’ll write
the word syrup
and suddenly you’ll feel
the honey heaviness oozing slowly
from the sides of your tongue
and out the corner
of your
lips

---------I’ll move you here

--------------make you squint

-------------------with this

--------------then flick your frowning eyes

--------back here

I’ll write ice
and a miniscule shiver
will dance right down the length
of your shuddering spine
and make whiskey
with cloves
entice

----------please

-------------don’t

--------------——look

-------------here

--------- yet

I’ll write yawn
and immediately you’ll feel
the impetus building at the back of your throat
a bubble swelling to fullness
and needing to pop
now

------—-there’s no

-----------—need for a

-----------------semi colon;

-----------—-I’m just not

------——that kind of girl

I’ll write desire
and your legs will cross
you’ll clench your thighs together
and slide trembling hand between pale flesh
you’ll bite your lip
and moan
low

Maybe I am

---—-the semi colon

-——kind of girl

after all

But my joy wanes
and my strut stumbles
when I see your hand reach
to the edge of the page
to turn
away

You imagine that I
dance across the creamy screen
shooting infinitives from my open hands
and gushing gerunds from my inky mouth
twirling with arms to the skies
at the sheer beauty
of words

But
I have to confess
that my black rimmed mouth gasps
and my pulse slows
without you

oh your muse is a devilish delight, although i’m not sure how she’ll feel if she realises how cleverly you’ve managed to capture her here in your ink, beautiful bell. you make the most magic brew of your words and i love drinking them down. i cannot imagine there is any possible chance of muse crankiness with this beautiful ode xx

  • bellmusker replied

Thanks lovely Hollly! She’s frisky today, the wind banging against my windows and telling me the spring equinox is here, time to play and let go of restraint…..time to dip my toes in ink and whirl around the page, splashing words everywhere.

whispers besides, I’m awed by the muse, have to do what she says or my ink runs dry; a fate worse than no coffee, and a Hello Kitty convention :-) x x x

A writer goddess? Shooting infinitives from your open hands? I don’t think that’s all imagination on the readers part. No turning the page here.

    Love your work Bell.

  • bellmusker replied

Thanks Matthew! It’s not my usual style at all – can’t believe I wrote a piece without scents or serpents! But my fingertips were itchy, and this is what came out.

Now I have the image of people ducking for cover from flying infinitives, hehe. I’m such a word nerd….thanks for your comment!

Isn’t it just so lush with indulgence? I needed a word that would ooze from my mouth. Thanks Jess, appreciate it!

oh my…...what a magical web you wove with these beautiful words!

  • mstrace

    mstrace

Syrup, ice, yawn, desire…words of this ilk never sounded so sweet together. I tasted all of these words and saw them all as I read this, just as you laid it out before me. You turned these words into something so…wicked – yet so innately sexy. Who else can do that dearest Bell?

The question is…are you a semi colon kinda girl? Are you the connection between two things? The spring equinox is visiting Aussie land? Strange since those of us in California are saying goodbye to summer and hello to Fall. We are Earth opposites, you and I. Yet sometimes I feel like I can just get my ‘strut’ on, saunter next door and pop open a bold, spicy bottle of Red with you. That is how close your words feel.

p.s. And let’s not let missy muse get cranky, shall we…exercise the bitch well, will you?

  • bellmusker replied

Ah babe, trust you to get it!

I’ve always been more inclined towards using colons, standing firm and strident. But I’m learning the art of the semi, connecting my disparate shades and combining them into one spine straightened woman…..with inkstains and a sly smile and fingers that unclench that little bit more each day.

And the solstices and equinoxes are the perfect time to see that. Us Aussies are welcoming spring – just tonight I noticed the skeletal trees outside my window are unfurling their tiny mint buds.

    It’s a start, hey? x x x

I think the equinoxes are the two times of the year when the hemispheres are balanced and at their closest. And that your words are a force of nature, you rascal.. you did make me clench my thighs together!

  • bellmusker replied

So glad to hear it! But did I make you yawn? Each time I read over this, I can’t help yawning when I come to that stanza; just can’t resist.

Hope the equinox brings you all that you desire!

  • warmsugarcube

    warmsugarcube

yes you almost did, but yawns are so infectious aren’t they? i had never thought of a yawn as being a bubble needing to pop, but that’s it exactly.

and thank you, i’m hoping so too. its power is much needed this time around.
    back at you belle :)x

you must be a semi colon kind of girl; you just used that one so beautifully :D

It’s grammatically correct. The syntax is in proper working order. Annunciation still in question due to lack of sufficive, tangible and audible evidence, but all in all this is pretty damn sweet writing!—Albeit I’m thrown a little off kilter, out of synch, wide right and a touch woozy what with all the to and fro action incorporated, but I think it’s safe to assume the girl knows her shit.

Oh wow this is amazing, i spent last night with the girl that is the love of my life
this brought it all back like it was happening again, capturing moments, noises, snatches of conversations and movements in words, it will be different to anyone who reads it i think, all in all an amazing, seductive, sensual. sorry you probably didnt want to hear that, follow your muse no matter how bizzare the places she leads you are, it seems to me whenever you write somthing that isnt your usual style it is an out standing peice of work.

I liken this to a drug formula…..the ingredients such as desire, ice, yawn mixed into the syrup. Smooth and sensual as it runs down your throat. A delicious read. I am a lover of words to see how you mix them is so interesting to me…...like alchemy.
