At first when I noticed that we had Starlings in our yard, I did not want them around, beening a pest bird that can breed in large numbers and have diffrent diseases. But I learnt over time the other side of the story. My husband build two boxes for our Hairy Woodpeckers and our Flickers and the Starlings took them. So I gave up and just watched their progress, so far mum and dad have been eating the bad bugs in our vegetable garden and they do not like sunflower seeds so they have been eating only a very little of our seed and at most we only ever see four Starlings, not a huge number. Today, my husband opened one of the nesting boxes and …‘Ohhhhh,I am in love!" They are adorable, eventho somewhat ugly. Just love Spring and I have learnt an important message about Nature…’Let Be"…

    Wow! Great capture – I agree about the starlings – they DO mess up my bird seed and scatter it to the four winds, spoiling it for all the other birds but no matter – life is as they make it. Great photography. I have sparrows nesting in my blue tit box this year- I lost a lot of blue tits in my garden- three months of severe frost must have killed them.

  • I certainly know about severe frosts Bradene living in Utah we have a very long cold Winter. When the first Starlings appeared in my yard they came in flocks, now we have only 4 plus the babies, I hope they do move on. Sorry about your Blue Tits I hope more return. My husband and I love our Wild birds,some we lose and they make a return later. Thankyou so much for your wonderful comment and support very greatly apprecaited Bradene:=}

    Sacred new life…….I understand the dilemma though:-)

  • That is why I am trying to look at the positive side, my Husband and I do not use chemicals in our garden and if they want to get our bugs, well thats a good partnership. Thankyou so very much Enivea for your wonderful support, friendship and comments:=}
