Anything you can do, I can do better...by Rhana Griffin
Minny has been avidly observing me practising my TtV technique lately and I think silently fuming that she has been left on the shelf. So today while I was experimenting with vaseline (oh yes, keep your eyes peeled for the journal to come on that little adventure) she absconded with my beautiful 1937 vintage Ikoflex!
Well…. she really did look kinda cute so I thought I would grab a snap for her portfolio ;)
very cute Rhana… and vaseline hey… I’m channeling David Bailey… nice soft focus hey…. can’t wait
Will you slap me if I say I haven’t the first clue who David Bailey is? Oh and I pretty much failed at the soft focus stuff… but I did get some cool effects happening! :))
Splendid setup. Great camera. Did you really put Vaseline on a lens? A friend shoots through wax paper and bottles. Were you this imaginative and creative as a child?
Thanks Jan, and yes, it really is a beautiful camera. I am sorely tempted to try and hunt down some film for it just to see what kind o image it produces. It appears to be in fully working condition and I think I can just remember how to work with film ;)
I didn’t put vaseline on a lens exactly, but I did put it on a clear filter ;) Here is a little sneak peek for you…
As for being imaginative and creative as a child? Well, you would have to ask my Mum :))
hey sounds like Caroline knows who I mean… liberal slatherings of vaseline on his lens and lots of very soft focus very soft porn type of pictures of very young girls… it became his trademark although he did lots of other things as well… he was big in the seventies I think
He maybe knew John Holmes then ;) So I don’t feel as bad not knowing who he was, however I do remember a time not so long ago in the grand scheme of things where I had to google Ansel Adams.

How fun! Have you tried portraits with that? Not porn on very young girls, of course.
I don’t do people very well sadly… and I have a distinct lack of models that are willing to let me experiment on them ;)

What can I say Juilee… I really am not the most cultured of people ;) But at least now I can name two famous photographers!
