Let us share a story, you and I, one that begins "Once upon a time..." by

Last night I showed this image to a friend who said it looked like something out of a storybook, so I thought it would be fun if we could write a shared story to go along with it. I’ll start off in the first comment, everyone please feel free to add a little more :)

Once upon a time, (for all the best stories do start so) in a land not so far away, there lived a girl who was very, very sad. She was blessed with family and friends, and her faithful fluffy little pobblegonk who all loved her dearly, but….

she used to watch from the window as her friends all played outside, running around in and out of the tress. She was unable to walk and was confined to a wheel chair…

not a real wheelchair, it was a metaphorical wheelchair. The girl was quite capable of walking and running and skipping through the leaves, just like her friends. she just preferred staying indoors, sometimes, with her pobblegonk friend – who was always there for her.

Sometimes though, she felt like her world shifted slightly, so she felt kind of outside herself. When this happened she would hear voices whispering on the wind, not unkind voices but very very strange. She felt like should should be able to understand what they were saying, but she couldn’t quite grasp it. Each time this happened she fell back into her body with a thunk, and the feeling that she didn’t belong in this world would linger with her for days. As she grew older…

the feeling lessened but every once in a while the voices would whistle through the leaves, reminding her of a time long forgotten. Memories of a childhood spent watching from her window. Watching others….. laughing, skipping and dancing through the trees. Watching but never joining in…..

… watching but never joining in… Well, that wasn’t the ideal for the “faithful” little old pobblegonk let me tell you. Melissa’s little friend Riggle had grown tiresome of staying at home long ago… tired of sitting at the window, envious of all the children outside playing and laughing.
Riggle had seen the joy in their faces, the big wide open smiles and bellowing laughter. One look at Melissa’s troubled face on that fateful Thursday afternoon and Riggles mind was made up… “I gotta get me some of dat, I gotta get me some fun”
Poor old Melissa watched on helplessly as little old Riggle took a hop, skip and a jump right on out of the window she had been peering from all of those years.
Melissa was nearly all but grown up now… I wouldn’t say blossoming though, not like Riggle, who had grown into quite the man about town!
The children outside had accepted the little pobblegonk into their group on that fateful Thursday. Queried that his right leg fell well short of his left and queried the fact that he was only 2ft 3 inches tall, but accepted him none-the-less…

The Thursday, oh the Thursday, how later they wished that they’d all stayed inside, watching the leaves blow around in circles in the wind as the orange and reds formulated patterns in the ground as they continually descended to the ground.

The Thursday when after 958 years the pinina poinging blinkata tree came to life at the end of a deep and long slumber, still angry with the world and looking to take revenge for what originally happened over 4,000 years ago. Today’s the day that the secret came out, today’s the day…..

… yes, today was the day. But just not yet… not yet as Riggle sat pondering what the heck the van seller character was bringing to the story…anyway…

And with Riggle playing on his mismatched legs, rogue van seller’s wandering about and the pinina poinging blinkata tree coming to life seeking revenge the girl thought she better take the time to grab a quick bite of supper, as it looked like things were about to get hairy, and who knew when she would have time to eat later?
