Rhana Griffin

My first ever Stupid O'clock!

For those of you that have been around for a while you will be aware of my penchant for sleep-ins and my deep and abiding love affair with my bed and my pillow. As this comment from Simon on one of my sunsets clearly illustrates…

This must have been done in PS because there is no way you dragged yourself out your pit or delayed getting in to it to catch the light LOL!

I am not a morning person.

Which kinda sucks hairy goats balls a bit when you are a photographer because the light is absolutely gorgeous early morning and evenings.

I know this for a fact… I have seen photo’s

It’s not that I haven’t tried, I have! HONEST INJUN! I’ve lost count of the amount of times I have set the alarm for 4am, then woken up at 7am or later not even remembering turning the bloody thing off!

So I leave the Stupid O’clock shots to Stuart and others who are not early morning challenged like myself.

I have one thing to thank my hospital stay over the weekend for… if it weren’t for those evil wench nurses waking me up in the wee hours of the morning with their little fake alarms and lights in my eyes, eager to get their cheap thrills by sticking pointy things in my arms (oh and the urgent call of nature that invariably comes from being so rudely awakened) I never would have dragged my sorry arse outside with the wallabies and rabbits to capture this image.

Ok, so it’s NOT a great image, and yes it has been prettied up in PS for your viewing pleasure. Had I had known that I would be heading to a hospital with a magnificent view of Bass Straight from its backyard, I may have been able to clear the fog of pain for a moment to grab my camera bag and tripod… alas I did not and so only had my little purse camera with me.

I know… I KNOW!!! And I have the gaul to call myself a PHOTOGRAPHER???

Footnote: For the record I DO NOT really think nurses are evil wenches, I think they are the unsung heroes of our healthcare system who do an absolutely wonderful job. And no I am NOT just saying that because my sister is a nurse and if she reads this she is likely to jump on the first plane to Tassie armed with all sorts of pointy proby type things to teach me a lesson. I’m not scared of her and her sharp things and fake alarms. Honest. =))

What a great view from a hospital bed!
I think your p&s has done wonderfully well :)

It WAS a great view! I’m sure it helps with speedy recuperations.
What was it Lisa said to me Mark? Something along the lines of…
“And tomorrow… we shall wake at our leisure…” Oh my lord…. sweeter words have never fallen upon these ears of mine….

Love your stories Rhana – they are just so funny and clever – you know you are as good a writer as you are a photographer and that is saying something! Beautiful image this particularly for a purse camera lol. Know what you mean about the dawns – I’m equally morning challenged and on a couple of occasions I’ve made the superhuman effort and it’s been cloudy and crappy – yes morning is a treacherous and fickle mistress – best to tuck back under the blankies and tell her you’ve got a headache when she comes-a-courting methinks.

Well Rhana you really don’t know what you are missing , the climate you live in it must be fantastic early morning. I get up at 5am every morning winter and summer , it’s not so good in winter but the spring and summer and even autumn it is a wonderful part of the day ,. Birds are singing the sun may be coming up if you get any [sometimes we are lucky] There is hardly anyone about ,you really can’t beat it ,and look how many more hours in the day you have . I love it ,if by any chance I am late I hate myself all day as I feel like I have missed out . You should try it sometime . :=))

Be careful, I had Jo Lennox keep telling me to do morning shots, and I kept thinking to hell with setting the alarm at 3 o clock. Then I did it once and got totally and utterly hooked. Be careful Rhana, it’s a long and dangerous path from here on in! Oh just another one will spring to mind and before you know it you’ve done about 15 or so in 8 months!

Photo looks fab too – Jokes aside it is a lovely time of the day

What? Nurses are not evil wenches?? You`ve SO burst my bubble!
Tell ya what… if hospitals in Brussles had a view like that I`d stick pointy things in myself just to get in… but I`d pack the SLR in my bag BEFORE the paralysis set in!

I think it`s beautiful that you managed to turn around such an unpleasant event enough to produce something as wonderful as this shot from your captivity. XO.

    Glad you’re okay, Rhana.

Like you I am most definitely NOT a morning person, evening are my thing. P & S cameras are not dreadful things, they can take very nice pics as yours hasdone. It may have been prettied up buit, it’s still a nice one.

Nurses are like everyone else – good and bad ones. Take it from someone who has spent a lot of time in hospitals over the years.

Glad you got something lovely out of your stay.

LOL…...I dont mind being quoted LOL….especially when its true LOL. I hope you dont start associating early mornings with being stabbed with pointy things on a subconcious level…..it could wreak havoc with your life. I agree with Stu it is the best time of day…..no-one about…you have the world to yourself….....marvellous!

Firstly… LMAO @ “kinda sucks hairy goats balls”.. what a great quote!
Secondly, I was about to say, “way to go Rhana, what a trooper taking your camera into hospital with you” but then I read on…. needless to say, your committment to your craft is a cut above the rest, its not many would would jump out of a hospital bed to catch a sunrise.. and a nice one too.. pic looks great! Has it got you hooked though? Have to agree, the morning is the best time of day, sadly no nurses to wake me though!

It is so nice to know I am not alone in loving my bed Geoff, but I have been using the old “not now darlin I have a headache” excuse for quite a while…. hehehe Perhaps its time for a fresh excuse?

All I can say Irene is that I truly…. TRULY wish I could be more like you. But I fear that to become a morning person I would have to give up my vampiric ways. Midnight is an early night for me, and it is a lifetime habit. VERY hard to break.

  • Rhana Griffin

Rhana Griffin in reply to Stuart Chapman’s comment, 3 months ago

I don’t really think there is much danger of me beginning the slippery descent into being a morning person until I am a lot older. They say older people need less sleep yeah? Like I just said to Irene, Midnight is an early night for me, couple that with a 3am go and well…. let’s just say I would NOT be very pleasant to be around that day ;)

It IS a lovely time of the day though… I have fond memories of all three times I have experienced it ;)

Oopsie, sorry to bust ya bubble like that BB. (giggles)

As for the turnaround? Well, you know me… glass half full/rose-coloured-glasses kinda gal and all that shit =) If you make something good come from something bad then your smile is going to get more of a workout than your frown.

    Thanks Jan, you are such a sweetheart! {{{hugs}}}

My p&s is wonderful I have to say, but not so great for low light. I was very lucky to have every single one of my nurses be of the “good” variety, but then, that is my luck =)))

EGADS!!! What a terrifying thought! I may never get out of bed again! Oh thankyou so much kind Sir for putting that idea into my head. (pokes her tongue out at you)

I can’t take credit for sucks hairy goats balls Paul, that one is kindly on loan ;)

Hooked? PAH! Not fucking likely! Next time I drag my sorry arse outta bed at that time of the morning it’s prolly gonna end at the end of a pointy needle again (laughs)

Midnight’s a usual night for me. On the UK Bubble meet I went to sleep at 1.30 to get up at 4.30 to meet Mr Gladwin. I have witnesses too if you don’t believe me.

3 hours is all you need LOL! (Probably not the best advice to be giving out – don’t trust me – i’m not a doctor. Well, just don’t trust me is probably sound enough advice alone).

    Which begs the question.

Can you trust the person or statement when they say “Don’t trust me?”

Hmmmmmmmm (i’ll add it to the list of questions to ponder over)
