So I am needing to be taken firmly by the shoulders and pointed in the right direction. I want to create my own website for my art but haven’t got the FIRST clue on where to start. I know a few of you have already got your own sites and I was hoping someone might be able to provide some direction?
I am crap with codes and stuff (but can usually muddle my way through) so it would need to be a relatively simply design-your-own kind of thing. I’d like any and all ideas you can give me… I like to have choices ;)

Try a BLOG goto www.blogger.com its free and you can edit it very easy and have it up and running in minutes with no experience!!

Yes, freewebs.com is great. It has free web design software and free templates to use. You just type in your own spiel and put your images where you want them. No knowledge of code required, and you can have more than just photos on your pages – also video etc.
There’s a web design group right here on RB, so you should ask them too. If I had more spare time I’d be there a lot learning all I could – that’s my profession of choice.

have a look at blue voda you can register your domain name through them, download their software (try before you buy). Their aftersales service is fantastic. You can also download templates or even buy all singing all dancing templates. www.vodahost.com

Depands on a few things Rhana – for one, what you want your domain to be
For instance, a free website generator will usually insist on you using their domain with your username attached – Eg – www.myfreespace.com/rhana where as your own domain could be www.rhana.com [if it was available]. you will need to register a domain for this option though and pay for hosting.
A good free site generator, thats very easy to use with all the templates etc is Weebly.com

freewebs isn’t bad. There are a bunch of template based art sites too like clikpic.com (note the missing c in clik).
For a bit more DIY action, wordpress can do some amazing things in the hands of a helpful or paid friend. I know its out there for blog sites, but I just finished this site for a friend using wordpress.

Rhana, some of the web hosting sites have a sort of “proforma” package thing that helps you set your website up step-by-step. Have a look around at the different hosting sites. I know the one I use has a “do-it-yourself” help thing – I’m with WebCity.
