It's the passion that matters

passion |ˈpaSHən|
strong and barely controllable emotion

Someone once said to me (and I’m paraphrasing here) “I don’t care what you are passionate about, only that you are passionate about it. It’s the passion that matters.”

For some reason this has really stuck with me, and over the years it has encouraged me to share the things I am passionate about, even if those things may seem a little (stupid, odd, mental, geeky, childish, downright strange, borderline certifiable) well… you can pick whichever term suits the particular passion ;)

My passions are many and varied, some are fleeting, and some I know in my heart of hearts are so deep seated they will be with me until the day I shuffle off this mortal coil. What I want to share with you today though, is my passion for someone elses passion :)

Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser are 2Cellos

You’ve likely already heard of them, but until yesterday I hadn’t, so I spent a wonderful afternoon chasing down youtube vids of their performances and interviews. I really can’t pick a favourite, but this one will do for a start.

Modernising a traditional instrument certainly isn’t a new concept, but I don’t think I have ever seen it done before with such genuine passion. They both fully immerse themselves in the moment and make me feel emotionally invested in their performance.

Of course, it helps that they really do resemble Sam and Dean Winchester ;)

And lastly for those who might like something a little gentler… grab your tissues if you are a sooki-la-la like me.

It really is the passion that matters.

  • Oh how lucky you are Cosimo, to have someone in your life learning this beautiful instrument – you’ll have to let me know if they find 2cellos inspiring :)

OMG… LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! The Cello is one of my favorite instruments… so full of passion and something deep and warm. I’ve never seen a cello like the ones they were playing (how cool are those??)… and “Smells Like Teen Spirit” is one of my all time favorite songs… I spent many a day unable to move my neck in any direction from all the head banging ;) lol Thanks for this awesome collection and post :) xxxx

  • Those cellos just rock, they look like works of art in their own right :) You know what I love the best? The fact that their bows are pretty much destroyed at the end of each performance ;)
