Some of us can handle it, some can’t. Me? I’m in the can category… in fact I welcome it. I feel that it is only from constructive criticism that we learn.
I realise that art is subjective but by the same token there are certain technical aspects that can make a good photo great, a great photo exceptional.
I also realise that fellow bubblers may be hesitant to post their critique in the comments section knowing that “potential buyers” can also read these comments.
So here is what I am proposing.
The staff at RB have provided us with the useful bubblemail tool. While I will always endeavour to post images that are of the highest standard I can achieve at present, if you see something that you feel can be improved or have any hints and tips that you think I might benefit from throw me a bubblemail and let me know.
Thanks all!!

Hey Bella, have you checked out the critique forum?
BTW – I’m not great with criticism unless given to me by a perfect stranger…. I conclude that I’ve not reached a heightened level in this area…
I can intellectualise it ad-nauseam but it does not change my reaction….which generally involves sulking sooky la la routines…
photomystic, 11 months ago
All for it….....sometimes we overlook or simply don’t know….it can only help make us better….
Rhana Griffin, 11 months ago
No I havent Lisa… I have kind of stayed away from the forums on purpose. I’m the opposite to you. I prefer to get my criticism from people that I have had some interaction with, I guess because that way I know they are only doing it because they care to some degree about me and my photography journey personally.
cdwork, 11 months ago
Well written Rhana- bubble mail is a great tool for doing this.
I too wish to learn specificly in the photography field and would welcome constructive criticism with regards to my images.
LisaG, 11 months ago
Oh I agree with you Bella – unfortunately, I struggle in this area…
Rhana Griffin, 11 months ago
photomystic… I couldnt agree more! Have added you to my watchlist, welcome.
Hey cdwork… COOL! I think we can all learn a lot from each other.
Lisa… you are loved :))

Count me in. Great idea!! I also am in the can handle it catagory.
WMHaywood, 11 months ago
That’s a great idea Rhana, count me in also in the ‘can’ department, although sadly I don’t think I have much to offer in the way of advice or criticism myself, but I sure do welcome it from others.
Really great idea :)
Hugs

Welcome derid and WM!
WM, I am still a beginner myself and wile I am happy to offer any advice that I may have, perhaps you might want to consider a journal entry like this yourself?
In fact, I think anyone who wants some constructive criticism should feel free to do the same… You can even directly copy and paste this one and use it if you like… I’m totally cool with that!

Totally count me in. I think it’s great to get honest feedback, I will never take it to heart, As an example my recent shot titled “Sunrise” got many good comments on RB but I got some criticism from a contact on Flickr, I didn’t mind because I specifically asked this person to be honest with me. I guess that is the beauty of art, one person can love an image and another can think it is crap.

I think I have added everyone on here to my watchlist…..=) and thanks for adding me Rhana!

Great idea Bella…are you ready for it…lmao
Rhana Griffin, 11 months ago
You are more than welcome Suni!
Nicole like I said, art is subjective… this is not about whether someone likes your art or not, but more about if they think it could be improved and if they have the know how to share with you on how it could be improved. Great to have you on board too!!!
Demon, after all these years… you should know I am ready for ANYthing!!!

Good suggestion Rhana…...and I agree, constructive criticism is great, but in the right place. The bubblemail facility is certainly a helpful tool for this. I think most of us welcome constructive critiques, but we need to be careful not to discourage those artists who are still very new or very sensitive. I would certainly welcome more indepth, constructive commentary on my work via bubblemail.
Rhana Griffin, 11 months ago
I agree completely Whirligig which is why I posted this the way that I have… This way only those who wish to get some constructive critism on their images will receive it. I orignally posted this just for myself, as I know that there are many bubblers out there with way mroe experience than me and I was hoping that a few of them might spare me some time to give me some pointers.
This post has brought to light that I am not the only person who would benefit from it so its all good I reckon!
Adriana Glackin, 11 months ago
Count me in, too!
I also wrote a blog along your lines, and feel I can only improve if someone else can point me in the right direction. I don’t have formal training – except for one term at one 2 hour evening a week, and I mastered how to load the camera. Of course, we’re into digital now, so those lessons are now useless.
I’m open to your comments, feedback. : )
Halcyon007, 11 months ago
I’m all for that.
Although i’m never one to offer much criticism (I just don’t like it) i’m all for receiving it

I often do a critique sessions with other artists that I know. It’s amazing what you can learn with honest, non-politically motivated feedback. Also, it is a good learning experience for the person providing the feedback as it will intern make you look at your own work with a more critical eye.
I’m also of the ‘don’t post it directly on my work camp’ and think that bubblemail is as good of an option as any right now. I will promise to mention if I see anything that I think you would appreciate hearing and feel free to do the same.
cheers,
Dave

I too agree, I am never shy of giving a critique – I would hope that people don’t ‘say it for saying it sake’
creative criticism is great, you give it I give…...
and as for hints and help, we all could do with some at some point
Andrew Robertson, 11 months ago
I believe that any comments are good. We are all different and have different likes and dislikes. If someone is taking the effort to even criticise constructively then to me, it shows that they are looking at the work in great detail. We all have, however, got to believe in what we do and not to change our styles etc just because of a few comments.
I received a fairly flat comment to my Autumn picture but I just brushed it off. I don’t know if it was saracstic or not but what the heck…..
For every 1 “iffy” comment received there are heaps of positive ones. This I have witnessed with just being a member of RB for 2 months!

i agree that bubblemail is the best way to offer critiques for those artists who want them.
MtnMan, 11 months ago
I think as this site matures the ability to critique will and respond to comments will help all of us get to know the artists here better. It is tough in the present format for me to gauge just who wants constructive criticism (Notice the “C” ) and who can take it as well. So I have laid low so far. In my experience artists need information on how to do technical things and this format can make that much easier. They ask and somebody answers. Two years ago I knew virtually nothing about posting art online, now I wonder how much more can I learn in the next couple of years. I hope to “know” enough by the time I retire that I can just hang out on line and be of help as much as so many have helped me in the past.
Rhana Griffin, 11 months ago
This is way cool everyone… Thankyou all so much for sharing your views and ideas. As I said before, I originally posted this in the hopes the I* would get some constructive critism… but rest assured that everyone here who has expressed an interest will get it from me too, that is *IF and only if I feel I can help in some way.
Thanks again!

Shit… I hate it when I put my asterixes in the wrong place (laughs at herself)
