Silence Falls

Rhana Griffin

Silence Falls

Port Arthur. A place with a history of violence both recent and centuries past.

Why should it be then that I feel so at home here? Countless restless souls both innocent and guilty surely prowl the grounds and should create a miasma of misery that is palpable and yet… whenever I step inside the walls of this old church I feel an overwhelming sense of peace permeate my very soul.

Welcome to my sanctuary.

Wow – what an image!!!! The way you’ve controlled the light is amazing Rhana – feels like there are a million stories to be told from this image. You show a real connection to the piece and love the amount of work you have put into this… If it is your sanctuary then you have done extreme justice in it’s portrayal through aesthetics and the visual medium. Brilliant work! Love the inner light that is revealed in this imaeg!

Rhana, I know a thing or 2 about sanctuaries, and I can feel the inner sanctum of this place caressing the soul… and the silence… can`t even hear myself think as I look at this. You`ve made the world outside this place so dark and foreboding, and so the fortress illuminates like a beacon so you can find it no matter where you are. Looks like my kind of place… can you show us inside?

Oh wow Rhana – I’ve seen a million Port Arthur shots and this is definitely one of the very best – you have so successfully rendered the atmosphere of the place as I’ve experienced it – sanctuary indeed.

Wow Bellababe, such mood…I really like how this has turned out, great use of light…I agree with the comments above, atmosphere PLUS…

I felt the same sense of connection when I was there, it was a very strange feeling to have, and I was so overwhelmed.

    Sorry i’m late miss!

Apologies also for not knowing anything about Port Arthur (although I have just brushed by reading about it on the internet – so I now feel ready to comment).

I like the way you have chosen the dark to portray this place. The brickwork seems to ghost out of the darkness itself and sits nicely on the dark velvet greens. The backdrop of mean menacing sky and stark tree branches hang threatingly on the horizon and the is definately a real edge to the shot.

Although the light does seem to shine through (almost as symbolic as a light shining at the end of the tunnel) so there is hope yet.

Brilliant work indeed, it was raining the night I went on the ghost tour so I didnt have chance to capture the night version, yours is breathtaking :0)

  • Rhana GriffinRedbubbley Schweppervescence replied

(insert cheeky smile here) This is actually a daytime shot Alex, worked over in Photoshop. This last visit I didn’t get to go on the ghost tour either (but have been previously – freaking scary!) but wanted to create an image that captured how I felt it might look at night.
