Beyond Blue

Beyond Blue by Rhana Griffin
Beyond Blue by Rhana Griffin

Beyond Blue

Away beyond the blue
One star belongs to you
And every breathe I take
I’m closer to that place
Yeah, baby
I’m gonna meet you there
On the outskirts of the sky
Yeah, baby
And we will fly
Away beyond the blue
One star belongs to you
This life is but a dream
Go gently down the stream…

OK Rhana, I`ve told you this many times but I`ll say it again because people looking at this might not have seen the other stuff (jeeze, what are THEY missing?!)... Again you hit us with a double whammy. You do the perspective thing by getting down low and making this house look like it`s sitting squat in the middle of a __ field (pls fill in the blank cause I don`t know what they are), whereas anyone else would have stood up so as to include the bottom of the house. So already you put us in a place where things are not necessarily as they seem. Then you hit us with the color thing that brings us to a place where everything is just slightly surreal… like a flashback to that bit of mescaline you did back in college during that weekend break in the country (what, didn`t everybody do that?)

Anyway, what I`m trying to say is that you are so good at showing us something ordinary in a different way. Not changeing it with masses of processing, just giving it a different perspective, making us think there is more to it than the usual view. And that`s good cause it makes us think and expands our thoughts and inspires us. You are giving us mental excercise. Do you now realize what a contribution you give to mankind?

    Nice shot.

  • billyboy

... in other words, you are a modern day impressionist.

What a nice looking place …. I like the processing, with the reds ramping up the heat enough for all those windows to be open …... I’m quite jealous actually, all that warmth wafting about the place ….. topped off with a cobalt blue sky …. supa Rhan :))

What a beautiful contrast to the end of the world apocolyptic view of the church.

Thoughts immediately spring to, beautiful sunny summer afternoons, home made lemonade and the biggest concern of the day was whether the horses had been fed or not. A portrayal of real laid back blissfulness and endless summer days that never seem to end.

The red foreground (my turn to be ignorant and unknowledgeable now!) cuts swathe and is a marvellous introduction to the shot, before the central masterpiece, that gorgeous blue, house nestled between the trees, windows open inviting the world in. The textures on the wood work come out well, but my favourite subtlest part is the shadows cast by the open windows at the front. Both windows are open the same, but the light casts a different story and makes one shadow bigger than the other.

Finally, the darker blue of the sky tops it all off like a cherry on a cream cake.

(p.s. The lyrics provided – no relation btw)

The response to this image has been overwhelming. Heartfelt thanks to you all for your wonderful amazing comments. I apologise if my addiction to bright colours has offended anyones eyesight ;)

  • Rhana Griffin

Rhana Griffin in reply to billyboy’s comment, 5 months ago

Ok BB… first of all… whats mescaline? I’m a complete innocent you know. And now I am going to trash your perceptions and come tumbling down off that pedestal you have put me on. I have a feeling its gonna hurt.

Let me just check my supply of bandaids first.

    ..
    ..

    Ok… I’m good.

The perspective thing comes around from me being vertically challenged. The only way I could have shot the bottom of the house would have been to stand on the back of one of the friendly cows in the next paddock. Dont know how that would have gone for lens shake ;)

Next illusion to be shattered… this image went through three different programmes. SO yes, LOTS of processing. Why? Because I wanted you to see the potential that I saw when I stumbled across this little house. Thats what I do BB. I see things and they look “right” and then I think to myself “how can I make this look better?”

But there is one observation you have made that I wont trash… I DO try to show you the world through my eyes… the ordinary in a slightly different way. I want people to wake up to the beauty that is around, every single minute, of every single day.

    Modern Day Impressionist? I’m not deserving of the title but man… thats a fucking hell of a cool thing to say. heartfelt thanks {{hugs}}
